Does any one know how much money was raised for Help For Heroes at the Old Saints v Combined services at the Silverlake, I know the crowd number was disappointing which was shame because it was a very enjoyable afternoon, but I cannot find any Press reports after the game.

Not really off topic as Matt was heavily involved in this good cause and scored a couple of goals in the 5 5 draw plus a penalty in the shoot out.

I am not disappointed in Matt but I do wish he would stop harping on about the fact that he has to buy his own ticket to get to see Saints. As for Lawrie he too needs to bow out gracefully. We know he did good for the club but his loyalties were not here they were at his town of birth Sunderland. From where he was sacked and to my memory he hasn't worked in management since. He then made his choice and should stick to it. Matty is different......Most of the Saints fans still worship him.....he too was excellent for this club. Remember it was him and his consortium that kept the Leibherr family out for weeks but in the end didn't come across. So it should be understandable if there is some caution between him and Nicola. Over the price of a ticket for a football match.........If you have enough money to perhaps front a football club like saints.....surely you have enough to buy the ticket for the seat next to Cortese who does buy his own ticket.......Come on matt....don't spoil it for the up and coming kids....let them remember you as the hero without strings attached.

Naa I've lost all respect I had for Matt because of his childish remarks and my argument/debate with his prat of a son on Twitter

Cortese <3

MLT does need to get over this, thats for sure, but he's still a legend, what he did for us can't just turn to **** over night.
He needs to stop this pettiness, & soon, its making me uncomfortable.

so does Cortese though as fair as im concerned - was there any need to bring it back up in that interview?

im not sure if your being serious or not lol ! i hope not

Sorry but I was being serious.

I know MLT was a great player and I have seen watched many of his goals over and over again...

But as an 18 year old I have only been going to Saints for 10 years this season, so I missed out really on seeing him...

I have witnessed a few years in the Prem and our fall from the top yo the third tier.

Then we got taken over and suddenly our club had changed thanks yo two men. Cortese even suggested to ML to buy the club.

The last few years have been the happiest I have seen as a Saint. I go to games now expecting to win and I always see 100% commitment from everyone within the club.

Cortese has a brilliantly structured club and I fully respect him.

It takes years to build a reputation, but it takes seconds to destroy it...

This is just my view on the matter, I think other people are probably making more of an issue of it then either MLT or NC. The papers love to stir things up as that is what sells the paper and now and then they have little news so this is a useful "news" item to create interest, the truth is not the most important thing but mud sticks. Probably the last thing on either persons mind is whether anyone gets a free ticket or not. Time is a healer so lets hope it just gets pushed out of sight, the Club must concentrate on the future, remember the past and do things right on a day to day basis.

Would this be the same SUN newspaper that a while back refused to even print our name? And is part of the same organisation that was responsible for the News of the World?

I'd struggle to take any serious note behind anything they say. And I wouldnt be surprised if one day it was revealed they also ran the Daily Echo :-D

Ok everyone. I am 37 and was lucky enough to be a season ticket holder at the Dell during matt's glory years. People, (especially those too young to not have been around in those days) need to realise just how much Saints owed to the man. For fully 5 seasons, matt was the single reason saints stayed in the top league. For those of us who watched the saints through eras such as Branfoot and Merrington, you do not know just how rubbish we were! We fought and scrapped and made the most of the benefits our ancient ground gave us, because believe me, away from home we were terrible! Matt kept us in the league with his skill and commitment to the saints. Without Matt we would not have the new stadium, because we would be a small team knocking around the first div and championship. There is no way that Marcus would have come into Saints without the ground.

While it's a shame that thing have got a little petty, forget the fact that he may well be able to afford it, true legends of the club (and let's be honest we dont have many..) should be awarded a ticket for life and be treated accordingly. I dont believe he want to take the mickey, but given a choice of Matty or Cortese, sorry younguns but I will never be able to forget the world class goals as ling as I live. I challenge anyone to find a goal saints have scored since he retired that will compare to his??

Finally, I am a very happy saints fan, who is loving the stability that the current owners have brought us, but let's not forget the debts we owe others. Part of the beauty of football is the tradition of the club.

I will get off my soapbox now.

:o)
