I don't know whether I said it, but I certainly thought it. People were saying how good he was, but he wasn't being promoted like Shaw. Am very happy to be proved wrong.
Indeed, good point. Getting over to the Saints OS, watching UA games and reading reports of progress does reap benefits in the end. You can comment with a wee bit of confidence that what you are writing may have some foundation. I suppose if one doesn't do that sort of thing, but depends upon headline reports in newspapers, then players like Targett are going to be a complete surprise when they eventually do show up. Yes, he did appear to come straight out of the Saints Academy LB box, with his cellophane wrapper on, a fully functional and complete left-back, but he's been showing oodles of potential for the U21's and England U19's. So much so that one would almost have to one's eyes shut and fingers in the ears not to know about it.
He did indeed. I've known about Targett's potential for at least a couple of seasons, and even I nearly snorted up the whole line up in one go.
I Suppose it helps I see a lot of academy games. But I have been going on about Targett for about 3 yrs now.
I've liked Hesketh since his introductory profile described him so glowingly. A central midfielder comfortable on both feet who idolizes Xavi, I think it said.
Well the Sports sub-editors will think he's a gift. Arsenal Targetting saint's starlet. Targett hits the bullseye. (Insert your own Target pun)
Not so many years ago I took in an ex-Saints player who didn't make it due to recurring injury problems. He went off the rails a bit, and I was asked if I could help give him a foundation, etc... One of the spin-offs was that we regularly went to reserve and academy games, and since then I have always kept in touch with what goes on via my Saints Player account.
The Daily Mirrors top scientists gather to reveal the future; Matt Targett a name barely recognised "Gentlemen, we we can build on this, we have the technology, we have the capability to make the worlds first ultra useable last name" Matt Targett will be that name Funnier, Wittier, more versatile
Got to admit, you'd almost expect the name Targett to be a pseudonym. It's even better with the double TT. His surname was made for sport. Even Matthew can be shortened to Matt which, together with Targett, just sounds a little dreamed up in film studio. I used to think Dexter Blackstock was a great name, but Matt Targett usurps that completely.
