Just come back from southern Germany & “everyone” is wearing & is required to. Even need to show COVID jab certificate to get into any bar, restaurant & even McDonalds! A little bit different than here.

    From today’s Echo;

“If you think the Russians are the only ones using propaganda, then I think you’re very naive…
…I don’t think in this day and age, that any country should want to start a war
…it really frustrates me to see that in the 21st century, we’re still having wars between countries…
…we should be able to negotiate things, we should be able to have rational adult conversations about things without resorting to invading countries and starting wars. That’s where I stand.”

Can’t disagree with any of that Matt, tbh. Probably as soon trust Matt’s opinions, as those of the many warmongers in Westminster and Washington also.

    Hes 100% correct.

I have more in common with the average Russian than I do with our politicians.

Pretty utopic and naive world view there, which is no surprise. Of course the Russians aren’t the only ones using propaganda, but they are the only ones to have…y’know…invaded Ukraine. And to think you can have sensible, “adult” and fair discussions with someone like Putin, shows a huge lack of understanding of Putin or of his history.

    Maybe.

However, here we are again, taking sides in a conflict of which we have limited understanding, being sold the same old narrative which in the recent past has seen us try and bomb the world into democracy.

Meanwhile, Boris is having a great time playing Churchill, with Biden as a senile Roosevelt.

If anyone doesn't like Matts views on social media then don't read them. I stay well away from social media. I have seen people sacked for making one stupid comment that they may regret for the rest of their lives. Worst thing ever invented is social media.

Yes, we're taking sides (I presume you mean 'we' as in the likes of you and I?) It's a pretty easy one to see the wrong and the right in this one though.

I’m side with all those who oppose wars and violence, regardless of their nationality.

Well yes, nobody wants war and violence really (other than maybe weapons manufacturers) on a human level. That's not in question.

Yes - it is odd that Le Tiss is saying this is his position but is not outwardly criticising Russia for invading in the first place and promoting denial of their war crimes. That is the issue really

That’s exactly the issue. Anyone can pontificate and say “oh isn’t war terrible” but Putin’s army has invaded a sovereign country and committed unspeakable atrocities, which have been verified by independent observers and journalists like John Sweeney and Oz Katerji. The so-called peace talks and humanity corridors have been a sham.

Imagine if everyone in Britain in 1940 had just thrown their hands up and said “isn’t war terrible”, instead of actually fighting, which was, after all, the only choice at the time, and it’s the same position for Ukraine now.

Interested to read that much loved Dejan Lovren is calling for a boycott of Disney, because they’re committed to introducing more LGBTQ+ characters.

    Not just Tiss…

The pacifists viewpoint is commendable but to work every person of power and influence has to have the same perspective. But they just don't and because of that the history of the world is littered with conflict. It's an unpalatable fact but other than capitulation, reacting to violence with violence is quite often the only choice.

Lovren has always been a Category A dipshit though.

Turning the other cheek hasn't actually been tried all that often though, has it? Not that I'm advocating that in this case btw, I'm just very uneasy when I see our politicians and media deliberately stirring up war fever among the public.

I would also ask, why are we not actively encouraged to become outraged over Yemen, The Western Sahara, Turkish treatment of Kurds (remember them?), East Africa, Myanmar etc.?

I mentioned something along these lines when this first all kicked off. It's an awful situation but I find the hypocrisy and fake outrage from the powers that be laughable.

Let's have it right, the UK & US don't really give a **** about Ukraine or their sovereignty. It's because it's Russia involved that provokes our interest, all geopolitics rather than anything else.

You could add Israel to your list too. We've never been too bothered about them taking more land illegally iirc.
