http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30445919 Interesting read on Grimes. Being compared to Hoddle. Don't think it will take him long to break into the first team judging by this and Blue's summary of him.
just hope he is not hidden in the under 20s, try him, barrow, carroll etc, what have we got to lose bar 3 points??
I'd certainly like to see Barrow given a game. Can't be no worse than Dyer and Routs atm. I can also see Carroll start alongside Ki v QPR. Hopefully Grimes will get some game time in the FA Cup, if he isn't cup tied.
Anyone remember Ryan Hartley, who also signed from Exeter some three years or so ago? He was loaned back to them, and that was that. He never actually played for The Swans'. Hope this lad doesn't go the same way. Comparison's being made with Hoddle, who was some player. That's quite a burden to carry. Looking forward to seeing him play. Good work by Garry Monk to get one over on Liverpool, and a few other top Clubs' who were showing interest in signing him.
Barrow needs space but he didn't seem able to beat a defender when he's played for the senior team. He had about 25 minutes and quite a few chances to attack the Palace (I think) defenders but didn't get much change from them. As weak as Dyer and Routs have been of late (Dyer possibly because of lack of game time) I'd currently pick either ahead of Barrow. Not sure about him - probably needs time with the senior team to see how he can best be used. I like Carroll and would like him to play more. Knowing nothing about Grimes but if we are paying that sort of money I'd hope he'd be more than squad player in the under 21s.
The under 2 Million transfers can be a paradise imo , playets like Michu , Chico and Vorm to name a few .Glad Monk is grabbing a few like Grimes
The problem for Hartley was we signed him in the January window and loaned him back to Exeter then expected him to then start the following season. Of course then we got promoted to The PL and thus signed better players, this making him surplus to requirements. Think the lad thought he was better than he actually was, think we sent him out on loan to Brighton then. My neighbour a Brighton fan said he flattered to device and wasn't PL quality.
Better still that Monk is sniffing on the home front for even better value .. ..be it unproven . Michi and Chico proved their value .Apparently , we gave Vom away so no big loss
I felt really sorry for Hartley. He must have been excited about joining The Swans'. We'll never know if he was any good. I take your neighbour's comment with a pinch of salt.
However good Grimes is, he is coming from a team 9th in League 2. He will need experience around him if he's going to playing in the Premier League - unfortunately we don't have his type of player for him to learn from. I recall similar claims being made for Fulton, and the other two! Who knows our plans for him? I doubt he will improve playing for the under 21s so a loan to a League 1 team might be preferable. It means we still need to fill an ever widening gap and have close to £2 mn less to do it with.
If he can cross like this in the PL and we keep hold of Bony, I see a lot of goals coming our way. There's a lot of hype surrounding this kid, if he can live up to it, what a player we will have
Lets be realistic a lot of money for a 19 year old, He obviously has a lot of potential and that ia what the club believes as they have payed a big fee for him. But we also have to give him time, yes people are saying he is class, but remember it is in league2. Many young plyers fail to progress, lets hope he will. It appears a very shrewd signing, good luck to the boy.
