IMO, a player like Fox who can also defend. I've no idea of any names who may be in our price range (£5M to £10M), but as SO many posters have said someone who can fulfil that role is ESSENTIAL, hence why I feel he would be worth spending some serious money on. We really DO need to get good crosses/passes that split the defence into our strikers if we are to be anywhere near the top half of the Championship come next May.
Thanks for that Supers. I agree about the quality ACM being the top requirement, especially as there will be a lot of games like this when we are trying to break down defensive sides. It was a big ask to play Loza as a playmaker and Wes might have made a difference, but we still need that ACM (especially with the threat of Fer leaving). Good to hear about Grabban and Lafferty, and your comments about Redmond, Bennett and Murphy seem to suggest that the flanks are well enough covered after the departure of Snodgrass, given that we still have Pilks to rejoin the squad at Braintree. I suppose the performance is what matters most in such an early match.
josh was very impressive. i think he could step up this season. i'm not going to suggest he should start every game but i do think we'll see him feature at least 30 times. lafferty is a good player - we already knew that (well, apart from carrabuh) - the issue has always been his attitude as far as i'm concerned. if he shows a willingness to work hard he'll be a bit of a fans favourite i think. the girls i was near have already taken a shine to him...
We used all our players kept a clean sheet and our new#9 scores a nice goal on his debut in an away win..
On Lafferty... “I think everyone could see how hard he worked. He got his goal as a reward and perhaps we could have used his height a little bit more,” said Adams
If he means coming in on cut back crosses - great. If he means West Ham/Andy Carroll - that is not what we signed up to. Anyway didn't Supers say that despite his height he is useless in the air? Does Adams know what he has bought?
Carrabuh will love the emphasis on his height, but it does have a role to play, especially when you're trying to break down a 'parked' defense like at Dereham. Lafferty can score with his head, but he can also knock down balls for others to feed off. His goal did show good positional sense to anticipate Turner's knock down and it was an excellent volley. Not just a big man then. Redmond also deserves credit for the cross on to Turner's head.
agree it needs clarification from adams. perhaps i was harsh to say lafferty is 'useless' with his head. huckerby was 'useless' with his head; lafferty is mediocre with his considering his height. think peter crouch
Didn't you also say Supers that Hooper was carrying a bit of weight. I didn't think that would happen with Holt here and after a week of what should have been ' weight loss and fitness ' training. A bit worrying!!
always difficult to tell to be fair but my first impression was 'he's put on some timber'. didn't look fit, that's for sure, but adams said all the players returned fitter than last summer so we'll have to take his word on that
I'd like to see Lafferty and Grabban paired at Braintree with RvW and Hooper paired in a diamond formation in the other half. That might give further indications of where we are headed.
