Thought I’d start a thread where we could chat about the day’s match, as none of us are getting anywhere near a stadium for the foreseeable.

So, away to Donny (who’ve made a good start this season) and there’s a start for new boy McCormick and Daly gets a start too but in which position? Also, anyone know why Little isn’t in the squad?

3 - 1 down after missing a reasonable chance according to the match day thread
make that 4 - 1 down and still 30 mins to play
Wigan Crewe Oxford all winning that puts us in the bottom 3 its going to be a very long relegation battle

    Very disappointing.

A total of five shots on target over our first three games tells its own story.

You will never win a game of football if you don’t attempt to score.

We are conceding far to many goals playing three at the back, either the 3 CBs learn how to defend or we go to four at the back playing two FBs who can defend along with two CBs who can defend. If we want to stay in league 1 we have to stop conceding so many goals two wingers converted into defenders are NOT working, Please Ben sort this problem out before people start shouting for head. I had high hopes for this season now they are being diluted with every match, a long season of struggle is all I can see ahead at this moment in time and not being able to support and encourage them at the ground isn't helping and I do know that is not the clubs fault

Sounds like another horror show going on at Doncaster. Currently bottom of the league after only 3 games - speechless!! I know the 3 games were tough on paper, let alone anywhere else, but to capitulate like we have is very worrying. I'm sorry, but Garner's project simply isn't working, in my opinion - I dont think we have the quality in the side to play the way he wants, its as simple as that. Either that, or his way of playing doesn't work in this division, in which case, why persist with it? We've all enjoyed watching the likes of Barcelona, Man City and Liverpool spraying the ball around and passing through teams unchallenged over the years, but you need an entire ream made up of top quality players for this to work, and we certainly don't have that! Northampton is definitely a winnable game next, our best opportunity so far this season, but for me, it's now a must win game, or we are going to be in serious trouble this season. On a gloomy side, we will probably see a few teams in league 1 go into administration if the season isn't curtailed early,(which I think it will be), and this could be our only chance of not playing in league 2 next season!

Nail on the head. Possession-based football isn’t for League One. You have to be more direct to win games - just five shots on goal (inc a penalty) over four and a half hours of football isn’t good enough.

Last season under Coughlan we were 2-0 down at home to Southend. My mate in the away end was laughing at me via text. Then we came out for the second half and blew them away playing direct, attacking football scoring four goals.

I can’t see the same thing happen under Garner.

I think someone at the club needs to wake up to this situation and fast because if this carries on for a lot longer then we will be buried by Christmas. Two wins in twenty three is utterly shocking and all that he can come out with today is to blame the referee.....embarrassing , Jim Gannon, BG is knocking on your door..

Let's hope you are buried by Christmas. The time wasting tactics at Sunderland were disgraceful.

The fact that you couldn’t beat us shows how ****e you are. Another season in L1 awaits the “Mighty Mackems” and their bitter fans.

Another needless and unjustified quote by the bitter, delusional, fan base at Sunderland. Just because your lot didn't have the ability or guile to beat what is a very poor and disjointed Rovers team at the moment, it's a shame you can't accept your own team's shortcomings, and resort to blaming everybody else instead. Just because you are Sunderland FC, you don't have an automatic right to win this league - you will need to work at it like everyone else! I see you only beat Peterborough today thanks to a late penalty, and having committed nearly double the amount of fouls that they did - but I'm sure that will be the referee's fault! :emoticon-0106-cryin

Nice to see you condone time wasting on an industrial scale. You must have been very happy to see your off field "injured" player roll back onto the field of play on your manager's instructions to waste yet more time.
As for your comment about us expecting to win the league, you really are in the wrong job. I thought mind reading was confined to the stage.

I don't recall saying I condone time wasting, sadly it's part of football nowadays, whether we like it or not. It's no different to diving to win a penalty, feigning injury, taking an eternity to take goal kicks or free kicks etc, and every one of our teams are guilty of these tactics at some point during every season, whether we like to admit it or not. Clubs justify it by naming it 'professionalism', and us fans will happily tolerate it from our own team but we all moan when our opponents do it to us! As regards your second comment, yes, having calmed down since yesterday, I concede it was probably wrong to tar all Sunderland supporters with the same brush - I was mainly referring to the couple that I know that live down this way, so I apologise for that, it was wrong to assume you all have the same attitude, although with your club's history, I suspect that many Sunderland supporters are really struggling to come to terms with being in this league still.

The BBC described it as a hard earned win for Donny, so I think the scoreline was probably a bit flattering. Ten games in is the usual time to take stock anyway, although looking back at BG's record so far I'm not too hopeful. I think we've got decent players. They just need clear heads so they can go out and play.

Baldee, Little is injured and will be for some time now. Same injury as last season which put him out for ages. He needs to see a specialist.

We've played Ipswich (1st) Sunderland (5th) Doncaster (4th). We all knew it would be a tough start. As for lack of shots (on or off target), not many clubs will get a lot of them against these 3 teams, so it is not all doom and gloom in my opinion. I though Hanlon had a good game but needed service. The service never came. I hope it is just because the opponents were too good at stopping us being creative and not that there is a bigger issue within the club otherwise we are screwed. Positive thing is, we don't have to play these lot for a while, so things can only get better.

    I hope.

If they end the season now due to the 2nd wave of covid then we are gone! We need points asap. Northampton all of a sudden is a big game. I still have faith in BG. But this is only because the players do. Once he loses them, he has to go. But the players really are happy with BG but for some reason they can't transfer their play from the traing ground to the game.

To be honest, if they do curtail the season soon, I don't think they could justifiably implement the points per game method after only 3 or 4 games played - if the powers that be, decide the season can't be restarted next year, then I would hope they would have the sense to simply null and void the season, and restart when safe to do so. On a positive note, we are currently only 5 points off a play off spot!! Couple of wins and we're there!! :emoticon-0169-dance

I did indeed study hard in school.

A good education is very important - it helps you identify utter dickheads.

    How’s you then RoD? :1980_boogie_down:
