I had thought that with TYO near the Rous, it would have helped boost the noise from there...but no such luck so far!
To be honest H, I couldn't even hear TYO once the game started. They were on my good hearing side and I was midway between the halfway line and them, so not that far away I am quite happy for them to do their bit, but because of the acoustics or something, their voices are not carrying.
i sit right next to them and struggle to hear them sometimes! lol...when they were at the top of the Rookery i couldn't hear them at all...now they've moved down it's better, because at least the players can hear them...at least, i like to think they can...
I know where you are in proximity to them and it seems that they are stuck down in a corner. I guess it is not possible because of season tickets etc., but if they are going to create a ripple effect wouldn't they be better right in the middle of the Rookery.
Part of the problem is that there simply aren't enough of them to make a difference. There are noisier chanters in the Rookery, and sometimes, TYO will start something...somewhere else in the Rookery a different chant will start and drown out TYO...they're not really very effective at all. Not sure being in the middle will help but if that's where they were to go, they might as well tag on to the people at the top of the Rookery in the middle, because they're very noisy!
I have to agree H, the noise needs to be central when I have been to the Vic when TYO were up in the RHS you could hardly hear them once the crowd in the centre started chanting. But honestly unless we are on a winning streak and are on form there has never been much of an atmosphere perse! When I had a season ticket in the mid 90's and the home end was the North Stand we seemed to make more noise and there was an atmoshpere. I also think TYO do seem to be of the younger age group, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong Maybe they need some manly men singing with them
Maybe if the noisy groups could get together and get a bit more organised! No doubt Pompey fans will show them how its done !
Pompey fans have always been vocal, it always makes for a more enjoyable game. I just think that we are not that vocal in our support within the ground or as has been said the accousitcs don't lend to it
Tis a shame Al we can be quite noisy away! I remember 28000 crowds in a 4 sided vic and plenty of noise then! In the heady days of terrace rather seated stands!
I do believe that Stands have killed off many a ground, saying that though it depends on the size of the support. We do seem more vocal away even at Leicester we could be heard and there were not that many of us there Some grounds are designed for sound, we have too much space between the stands so the sound cannot resonate round! It just disperses
If points were awarded for average noise per person, Pompey would be top of the league. Win, lose or draw, it will be noisy for 90 minutes
Good to see that despite all of the troubles over ownership etc. the Pompey fans showed their loyalty to the club and continue to give maximum support. I hope that it is a good game for all and wish the travelling fans safe journeys.
It would be interesting to have a vote on other clubs fans support - loyalty, noise etc -I reckon Pompey would do very well
Leaving for the match in half an hour !! In response to injuries and suspensions- our captain Liam Lawrence is injured, he missed the Republic of Ireland's match recently because of it. On a side note- may the best team win !! PUP
#WatfordFC XI v Portsmouth: Loach; Hodson, Mariappa, Nosworthy, Dickinson; Yeates, Hogg, Buaben, Kightly; Sordell, Iwelumo.
Bas is out on the pitch.....just checking to see if he could be the answer to our goal scoring problems.
Loach is being very honest on the Player preview. Does't think we are very far off being a reasonable side. There is very little difference between many of the teams in the league. We are certainly one of the fittest. Richard Lee wanted to play football so went to Brentford. He made the right decision, but still checks out the Watford score. Sounds as if he really didn't want to leave, but things have turned out well since.
