I think we have been playing good, passing football over the last few weeks, and that didn't happen last night. The commentators said the game was stretched, but the quality was poor.

I know there does not have to be contact. But the attacking player cannot cause the contact. If the attacking player runs into or over the defenders leg then it is not a foul. The Attacking player should be booked for simulation. You admitted that he left the leg there. He caused the contact, not Marriappa. Therefore its simulation and a booking and a free kick to Watford.

I was offering the hypothetical situation that if a player runs into another player its not a foul, i never said that was what happened.

There does not need to be contact no, but the challenge has to be reckless. It was shown because it lead to a red card and a shot. Not necessarily because it should have been a penalty.

Of course your player caused the contact! He slid into Beckford's path! The only two options open to Beckford were to be brought down, or to leap the challenge, which was a bad challenge because it was nowhere near the ball.

You admitted it yourself, Beckford trailed his leg!! You ask any official and they will say that that is not a freekick. You cannot dangle a leg out to be caught!!!

And as I said, players do this week in, week out. He sucked him into the challenge, which was a definite foul because he cut across Beckford and didn't connect with the ball. As you agreed with above, there doesn't actually have to be contact, trailing the leg is just a way to ensure the ref gives it. It doesn't suddenly become simulation because of the trailing leg. Simulation is only when there is no foul. Do you really think every time a player is fouled he HAS to go to ground? Of course they don't, it's just a way to make the refs decision easier.

The old adage is - if you're going to slide in you MUST win the ball. Your defender didn't.

I agree that if Marriappa had caught Beckford "fairly" then it would be a foul. But if the player hangs out a leg or chooses to go over the leg (as does happen) then its not a foul. You cannot do that. However, i do agree that it was a foul this time and it was given in the right place. But the wrong player was sent off.

it's interesting that so many teams come to Vicarage road and say they have a bad game. In truth, we don't allow teams to play their passing game...your manager should have been aware of that and dealt with it accordingly. Sadly, he 'knows how Watford play', but didn't prepare. That is the reason we have the three points, imho.

    Dear all

The author of this thread has requested that it now be closed. Thanks Leicester fans for the good humoured and friendly chat. I'm sure i speak for all of the Watford board when i wish you good luck for the rest of the season. See you next season, unless you beat Cardiff in the playoffs ;) (pretty please with cherries on the top!)
