And the smallest away crowd, though 500+ seems a good effort until you realise that according to Dan their stadium holds 25,000. i'm guessing he'll play Monday but knows he's going...he ripped his shirt off after the goal which said to all of us that he's going back and didn't mind getting a yellow card because of that. Nyron was playing way too well lol...and when he hit the bar we all breathed a sigh of relief! ...he was rock solid as usual, but i think we'll get him to stay, hopefully permanently. And not before time. The ref had a word with him within the first 5 minutes and didn't stop telling him to calm down the whole way through! Surprised he didn't pick up two yellows! Definitely my MotM but Hodson came a close second today (never thought i'd say that! lol). Honestly i couldn't fault any of them today, contrary to other opinions, i thought we played well, especially when they went down to 10. So often playing against 10 men is harder...and we ripped through them after the red card. They'd lost their height, and seemed to completely lose their way. Prince played much better than he did against Cardiff, but was probably our weakest link, Mapps and Nos were fab as ever...all in all, a good, strong performance, and a fantastic result! My only gripe with Kightly is that he has lately been very greedy and when he could have crossed or passed he's only kept the ball at his feet, thinking of going for goal, and getting the ball taken away from him because there's 2 or 3 players on him and he tries to do too much. fingers crossed! Bloody ridiculous! The band were fab, i really enjoyed their input! Happy New Year NNW! Looking forward to the next 'Straw'!
just in case you missed #watfordfc loan news earlier. Chez Isaac to Tamworth, Dale Bennett to Brentford & Rene Gilmartin extends Yeovil loan
Right, probably time i headed out...friends coming in half an hour and there's Mr H in the kitchen...god knows what he's doing, i'd better make sure the house isn't burning down! lol... Happy New Year everyone!! With no phone, i doubt i'll be here til the early hours, so see you then!
Plus points today...Hogg's energy, Deeney's bustle, Sordell's finishing, Mariappa's reading of the game, Hodson's support of his winger, Kightly and Eustace's shooting... Less impressive...Sordell's overall involvement, Buaben's invisibility, Loach's continued nervousness with kicking and command of his 6-yard area, Yeates' delivery apart from the second goal Overall, its always enjoyable when we win 4-1 and there were moments of slick football but we took a long time to impose ourselves on unconfident, niggly opponents.
I'll take an uninterested, uninvolved player that scores twice in a game, any time. That was Jimmy Greaves' main flaw!
No such thing as an easy game in this league and Donny could turn any team over so all in all a great performance/result
Hornette_TID, you will find that our ground holds 15000 but our attendances are only about 10000, we did not play well today but as aberdeenhornet has said we can turn any team over on our day as the recent wins against Saints and Leicester show. Until the sending off today the game was fairly even, the first half both teams were rubbish but it did pick up after the break. You deserved the win, though if we had kept 11 players on the pitch it could have been a different story. Happy new year all you Hornets and good luck.
Sordell scored 2 brilliant goals today and people are still slating him,(isnt that 5x more goals than the rest of the strike force put together) take a reality check- deeney put it about but missed open chances.
You were relieved to see Nosworthy hit the bar? It would've been a goal for us, not an owngoal you know!? ......
http://www.caughtoffside.com/2012/01/01/watford-4-1-doncaster-rovers-championship-highlights-video/? not a great quality vid , but you get the idea!
To be fair, I did list his finishing as a plus point and of course I agree with you...anyone who scores twice in a game has done well, though two in your own net or as part of a 2-7 defeat lessens the pleasure a bit...
lol...i know. Only in as much as with MO'N there we didn't want him to be too impressive, ya know? ...tomorrow he can score at will, that'd be fab
I have to agree, and think Hogg has played really well for a few weeks now. I would like a mention for Troy as well. He missed a good chance when he should have done better with the close range header, but overall I think he had an excellent game. Constant thorn in the defences side, wins the headers, hustles the defenders, is strong and works hard. If he could just add the goals to his game I think we will have a very good player. The Prince troubles me a bit. The shape of the team since he has been in has looked good. With Eustace/Hogg/Jenkins partnerships we didn't seem to have the right balance. Yet the Prince himself does not seem consistent, and does seem to 'go missing' for large parts of games. We are better when he is in the side, but it doesn't necessarily seem to be down to him. I am not sure if Eustace is right for the 'tip of the diamond' type role, but happy to see him given that chance, and of course at some stage we will get McGinn back who does play that position as well.
