gunnarsson can do it, last season we didnt have any players who could do it so we didnt, why not take advantage of it? we do the odd long ball, but with players like whittingham, mcphail and gunnarsson in CM those players are passers, and 4-5-1 wouldnt really suit a direct long ball team, i wasnt at the match so maybe were too direct but its neither our nor MM's philosophy to be a team like stoke..
Obviously I am only going by one game so don't really know how you've been playing - but with Malky in charge, was just a bit surprised by the tactics... but then with someone with a throw like that, he's playing to some of your strengths, and our obvious weaknesses!
Interesting, isn't it, that all these "Big-time Charlies" from Cardiff come on to the board claiming that they should be winning games like this against "18th placed teams", "crap teams" etc. etc. Did Watford fans have the same mentality as this when we won promotion into the old Div. 2 then into Div. 1 for the first time after decades of mediocrity? Did we start to expect to win every game against supposedly lower opposition? I wonder how many of these "lifelong Bluebirds" were even going to the home games when Cardiff were meandering about the lower leagues - seemingly for most of the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s? Not too many judging by their often pathetic attendances. Perhaps they were watching the Cardiff Blues instead?
look at the league table, we've been on an excellent run of form, we're in the top 6 and i expect us to beat a team who are 18th, after all you are there for a reason, theres nothing wrong with expectation.. i didnt go to the games in the 70's and 80's, the main reason being i wasnt born, i've been a season ticket holder since i was 12.. 'often pathetic attendances' - the attendance when we played you was 14,604, our last home game against boro was 23,373, what a complete tool you are
What sort of an excuse is that?... no wonder we had "pathetic attendances" with people like you not even being born
I seem to remember watching us in the old, old 2nd division (that's the same as the championship, the division we are both in now). The crowds then were around 20,000. Don't we still hold the record of over 35000 with Hereford for an old, old 3rd division game at around the same period? Paltry crowds.
I would read what I said again before you accuse me of being a tool! You can see that I was referring to Cardiff's lean years from the mid 70's to the early 2000s when you yo-yoed between D3 & D4 (or their equivalent today). Your average league game attendance over a season varied from 9,926 in 1980 and 2,826 (yes two thousand!) in 1987 with no average attendance beating the 10,000 mark from 1978 to 2001. There were 7 seasons where you couldn't even reach an average of 4,000! Pretty paltry I would say ccfcremotesupport So who's the tool now eh? Complete or otherwise........
you're still the tool, make no mistake. i dont see why you're making this into a side issue but look at the last 5-10 years, and in particular since we've moved to the new stadium..
All I'm saying is don't come the Billy Big Boots because you're having a couple of seasons in the sun. I well remember Coventry City fans having the same attitude when they moved into the Ricoh and had just celebrated 35 consecutive years in the top flight. Just have a bit of humility - after all you've not yet experienced a Malky second half of a season yet............ By the way Swamp - how did you get that nickname - the mind boggles!
gotta say i'm quite surprised to hear Cardiff fans sounding like Leeds fans...never thought they were like that. Such a shame. I thought they were better than that...hey ho.
Hmm. population of Watford = 79000 approx; population of Cardiff = 330000 approx, so do the maths. In case you can't, our attendance equates to roughly 18% of population, yours to only 7% - a big difference there!
BB Never as simple as that. Cardiff pull support from the south Wales Valleys, Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Newport, Cwmbran, Port Talbot and some areas further west than Swansea so a much larger catchment area. However, Watford is on the fringe of London, plus the northern home counties and the M1 corridor so their catchment area is potentially enormous. This is an argument that no one will ever win. Whichever club is the more succesful as Cardiff are at present will usually have the better attendances - another limitation being the ground size, e.g. Blackpool getting only around 10k average in their promotion year due to their ground redevelopment. At the end of the day we were 4th going into the game and you were 18th. Regardless of support size surely the more highly ranked side would expect to win hence our disappointment at not getting all 3 points. I don't see that as arrogance and we certainly do not behave like our friends at Leeds or Notts Forest. It is over 50 years since we were last in the old Div. 1 so simply have an overwhelming desire to get to the Prem.
Blue and how many london clubs are there to dilute that fan base , and how many in Cardiff! 10 mins to kick off in the next game so I suggest we let this thread lie for an afternoon
Norway, like I said, an argument no one will ever win. I'm sure we will all have other threads to move onto as today's games approach and new "discussions" crop up. Good luck to Watford until you visit us later in the season. It will be much appreciated if you take points off our competitors at the higher end of the table.
Last word, honest (typical my wife would say). I should wish Watford luck more often. Nice little goal feast today. How much longer can you hang on to Sordell? Wonder if we can afford him?
Hi Norway - sorry not been online for a few days so only just seen this. It maybe too late to respond as this thread is now old, so you may not see this response anyway. First of all, let me make it clear I was not necessarily arguing with your views on young Britt. I have no reason to believe Britt will not be successful, nor Sean Murray or Massey or Hoban etc. My point is that in numerous posts you have bemoaned not using the kids, when I still say that Dyche and his team are best positioned to know when and how to do that. Your point about Britt's goals at Wealdstone I don't believe are relevant yet, as I pointed out Liam Henderson, who was not good enough for the league, also scored well on loan and for the reserves. I think last year proved the point that we should not blood the youngsters too soon, our form while playing Wichelow, Thompson, Bennett etc was appalling! And what has it done for their development? They have either not progressed further, regressed or loss form or confidence. How does that help us in the long term? I think you should be patient and let the club decide the best way to develop these players and that may be that Britt now goes on loan again at a higher standard than Wealdstone, but not necessarily getting game time at Watford. I am sure Sean will pick him when the time is right. I noticed on another thread I read just now that again you have commented about when will try Sean Murray and Britt, and I am just saying that your thoughts have been noted on numerous occasions, so maybe you do not need to make them anymore!
