They started by far the better. The pace of their game, the overall energy was too much for us and we looked pedestrian in comparison. We seem to pass the ball at a snail's pace whist Soton's movement both on and off the ball was much quicker and more incisive. Add the fact that we couldn't seem to string more than two or three passes together before losing the ball and it was looking pretty bleak. We were 5/10% below par and it showed.

BUT. After the goal we sharpened up and gradually took the game over. Credit where it's due. Dyer decided he wanted to play and was unlucky with a great effort. Routledge continues to disappoint and is a yard off the pace. Took the easy option of conceding a foul when he was chasing back much like he did last season. That time it cost us a goal. Bring on Poz? I'd say yes if we could nail him to the touchline otherwise he'll be in there cramping Michu's space.

We deserve to be at least on terms, if not in front on chances created. We have to maintain or increase our tempo (only 45 minutes to a fortnight's break) so we have to go for it. We need to present a more physical challenge and stop faffing about with the ball in the danger areas. Keep doing it and Soton's quicker players will nick the ball and maybe a cheap goal with it. By all means keep playing football but NOT, NOT, NOT, in and around our box. We've already had a few close calls.

This game is still there for us but we have to watch them on the break because they are a quicker team than us by far. Oh, and of course also the set pieces, particularly with Lambert either taking them or presenting an aerial threat in the box.
