one angle made it look like a harsh foul (side on) but front on it looked like nothing, Lawro was right, dion was wrong
Reading a lot of other fans online saying Gaston is "too good" for Southampton and "how did they get him, brilliant player". Also, seen more than a few people comparing him to Kaka? Is that not also what one of the videos of him was titled? "Uruguayan Kaka". Anyway, I love the fella - what a player! Ohhhhhhh Gaston Ramirez!
I couldnt see during the game but looking at it on MOTD i cant for the life of me see why that goal was disallowed for a foul. I had non Saints supporting friends txt me after the game saying that we had a great goal wrongly disallowed. Never mind, as you say Fran we must move on.
The thing I loved about that goal is Gaston's movement, you can see that he is holding up and at a light jog as we already had 4 men committed ahead of him, as soon as Vermaelen nicks the ball even though it is not heading anywhere near Gaston, he breaks into full sprint as he sees the space emerging on the edge of the box and reads it perfectly to get himself in position then just gives an old fashioned welly. Very simple you would think but when you look at all other three Saints players, none are moving, they are standing and watching but Ramirez is always alive and reads the game so well for someone so young.
thought schneiderlin was brilliant today, my mom everyone else was quality. I don't think Davis suits our way of playing and would rather see him on the bench. It's frustrating to have not won this game but an excellent performance regardless.
What! That was never my intent I only meant for his footballing ability. For you to suggest otherwise is wrong
I would have to watch the game again but I don't remember him playing any good balls, except for a very good one to puncheon who was offside. He is no where near as good as Cork or Schneiderlin and we are a better team with them in midfield. I dislike players who play neat and tidy balls, slow the game down and keep possession for the sake of possession, Davis can do this well and it may look good but if you are the other team you won't be bothered at all by Davis's effective ball retention. We need someone who can have an impact on the match not a wet blanket. Also he has played his best for us coming on as a sub i.e. Man City and another recent game which I have forgotten both times he played in slightly more attacking positions and was dynamic unlike all the times i have seen him start.
Bit harsh Rabbit. He had a great game IMO. I was really worried not playing Cork in midfield would cost us the game but Davis filled the gap really well.
Thought Wilshere was milking it a bit but fair play, that had to hurt. Explains why Gaston was so keen to apologise too!
Thought Davis was good personally, made a few tackles, worked hard and covered a lot of ground, kept us ticking and decent going forward. Which is basically what Cork does. He matched up very nicely against Arsenal's lightweight midfield though.
