Clyne and Adam out and having to change the team round to play a great playing side like Arsenal...now tell me that Adkins isn't good enough. Great result and we deserved to win. It would have been easy to fold after Arsenal scored...I expected them to come out all guns blazing, but for a lot of the game we out-gunned the Gunners.
Boruc was scary as hell early doors, but 2nd half he didn't flap. So hopefully he can keep that up. I'd give him the Chelsea game too, bit of continuity. I'd make Maya my MOTM too. He struggled early doors, naturally, but has improved a lot and you can see he has settled. For £2m he looks like another very shrewd signing.
Southampton Defending: First 10 Games - conceded 28 Last 10 Games - conceded 10 - lost just two of the last ten
Boruc did what was required of him in the second half, but Arsenal didn't test him. Keeps our defence and midfield on their toes...protecting the GK. However, GKs are supposed to give the defence confidence. On Sky, they've gently pointed out to MLT that he keeps referring to Saints as 'we'...he said, well I was here seventeen years. After break, they've said they are going to speak to the most positive man in the world, NA
MOM was a toss up between Yoshida and Davis but most of our players played exceptionally well today. Almost disappointed with a great point! When I saw Boruc in goal and Cork at right back when we had Richardson on the bench I was wondering what the hell Adkins was doing. I am amazed they did not test Cork much defensively and Boruc did look shaky and his kicking is no better than Davis'. I do wonder if Adkins knows who our best keeper is.... However, delighted with our defending and team performance, just a pity we conceded when Arsenal didn't create much, if anything.
On form he is one of the best, but he has too many errors in his game. And his attitude is a massive problem.
great performance just a shame we didnt get the three points again. have deserved a good few extra points this season so hopefully it will balance itself out by the end, with us getting a few wins via pens and o.g's! cork was great as a makeshift right back, maya and fonte were also impressive and shaw looked like he was out to prove a point first half. they had to try switching ox as shaw had him in his pocket the majority of the time. Boruc should keep the jersey for a few games it is his turn, then it will go to butland at the end of the month! davis was good in the middle today, morgan looked a bit frustrated up against cazorla but held his own. guly put a shift in again and i dont think he can be blamed too much for the goal. gaston and rickie were a bit quiet i felt and if only punch had his shooting boots on! very happy though to hold our own against one of the big boys and finally get a point
Hands up who thought before Christmas the game we looked least likely to win would be fulham away! Shame we couldn't hang on or we could have had 7 points from the last three oh well great performance and get a win against villa and it will all be looking rather promising!
Great performance today!Thought whole team was excellent. What will we do with Guly when Lallana returns? He has been great.
Your probably right. However 5 years ago he was in the top 5 goal keepers in the world. Im not sure what is wrong with his attitude, he seems quite commited to me.
I think we would have won today if Lallana was fit. Don't get me wrong, I thought Guly was magnificent, but Adam just has that little extra ability to create chances. Puncheon was absolutely class again today!! The whole team were to be fair.
Thought the whole team were great although we did lack just a little bit of that edge going forward. Think you could easily give the MotM to any of the back four or Schneiderlin. Easiest case made for Cork since he was out of position, but thought they were all outstanding.
After the first 2 minutes I never felt we would lose, which was nice, bit pissed off all the reports go on about how poorly Arsenal played, maybe because they were out played and out worked by a BETTER TEAM!!!!!!!!
Both Wenger and the Stoke manager intimated that they might have underestimated Saints. Our position in the league doesn't indicate how good we are...our improvement (down to Nigel and the other coaches) has been massive, but it is taking us a long time to overcome our initial poor start. two losses in ten is brilliant for a team at the wrong end of the table...but too many draws. Aston Villa game is massive.
Some of their players were generally poor though, especially Sagna who looked rubbish against Newcastle as well.
I suspect Wenger feels like Nigel did after the Sunderland game...the team was flat and it's very hard to get going if you start wrong. Arsenal have had too many games like this...the reason they are never serious contenders for a title. P.s. this is the unexpected result that I felt other teams got and we didn't.
