Gerrard actually looking more comfortable than last year. Suarez looks like he's playing in a friendly right before start of season and knows he's done enough to prove his worth. It's why I'd take him off and let others prove it too. As I type this BR is doing it so.....
BTW... not anti-college sports necessarily... just making a comparison that many on this side of the pond don't seem to notice.
I quite hope Carroll works out and proves everyone wrong... not convinced he will... but it would be nice if he can make an impression and be the one to be the surprise diamond for the upcoming season. Seems a much weaker team than that which started the first half.
Since we've paid/are paying for him I'd love it too! Means we can use time & resources to improve elsewhere.
I still think we are still short of an absolute goalscorer. Gerrard - Yes can score. Sterling - very young, should not be relied on. Downing - no. Not a scorer. An option. Suarez - Class, but not a Fowler type. Borini - Looks good, but again young, and not sure how good. Carroll - Not convinced still. Questions over future. Pacheco - Where is he?!! Cole - No.
Trying to find lineups for the Bray game (our reserves) which is going on as we speak....Guessing Pacheco is with them...Makes no sense if he is not involved in either game as we do not have our full compliment of subs in this game.....Why have a free sub space instead of Pacheco?
Well yes... that could be said for anyone on the team... especially with Carroll though- if he can be a good "Rodders-Type" player it would be nice to have a player of his height who can also play in our new style. He's young- so if good enough could potentially be with the team for many years... also he has fantastic stamina... doesn't seem to fade in games and... at least back in the Newcastle days was very hard working... almost Kuytesque... he lost that when he came to us. Don't want to be a "hoof to his head team" - but it's nice to have that dynamic. So yes, want all our players to do well... but it would be especially good if Carroll could turn his game around and... well... be good on field.
Odd about Pacheco, his style fits right in with that first half squad. I still think that Carroll would excel in that first half tactic, oddly enough, as well as Sterling and Hendo.
Pacheco has to just keep working.....Show a bit of mental strength at not (currently) getting the opportunities.....Brendan Rodgers appreciates hard work and if he keeps going he is sure to get a chance!
Ha ha, yes that did sound a little general but I meant what you meant.... But you see the problem already in this match and what I think BR is worried about. That's three attempted crosses nowhere near Carroll who makes a good run. It's why I was annoyed at stats thrown around about how Downing had the most crosses into box last year but every game I watched the only guy to read Carrolls perfectly decent runs into & out of the box was Gerrard (same for England) Unfortunately as it stands our wide men do not have a good enough delivery/read of his runs for Carroll and BR doesn't seem to want to put Gerrard out there or change his system & buy a guy who can. So can't see him being here much longer. Shame as its not his failures but others that makes him surplus...
Moving the ball around well still. Big game I feel for Hendo, Adam, Carroll to show the worth. Carroll with a goal , keeper with the mistake but they all count.
