If (when?) we go down, don't just expect us to get straight back up.

All three promoted teams beat us easily.

Looking at our players, how many should (could) we keep?

M'Vila is not ours. Apart from him, who do we have that is any good?

Catts, yes. Watmore, promising. Pickford, may be ok. Kaboul, good when fit. Larsson, yes.
After that, who is playing good enough for the championship?

We probably need in the region of 8 BETTER players than we currently have to have any chance of getting back up or even to stay up. A good £50 million. We will probably spend less than £8 million in the window going by past Windows. Our average yearly net spend since 2008 is £4.5 million so don't expect much in January.

It's horrible what's happening to us. A couple of wins against 10 men was a false dawn. Much as I hate to admit it but the mags were the better team even though they lost.

Just wanted to take a step back from today's game. Not saying Sam put out a team today to deliberately get beat but I think he realized that there wasn't much chance of getting much out this game. He has one eye on the Liverpool game with a better chance of points. Plus with a lot of games coming up he was resting Defoe etc. He's just being coldly professional about it. He's so limited for options. The commentators here in the States are saying he needs 6 to 7 players for any chance of survival.....that sums his job up at the moment. Go for it Sam.....bring the players in and use the kids as well.....get rid of the **** also if you can....let's move onto the Liverpool game......

mags were ****e against us Charley. could still be playing now with our lot at home in bed for a few months and they still wouldn't score. Totally profligate. Played nicer football but created one clear cut chance in 90 minutes. We took our three chances in clinical fashion.

Against Everton, we were comfortably as good as them but lost 6-2. More shots, More on on target, just ours were saved and theirs weren't! They had a 28m striker up front in his peak. We had Defoe and fletcher. Defoe played ok but neither are going to terrify defences like lukaku!

As for the question you asked... There's a whole other thread for that but I'm deciding not to answer... Mainly because I'm an optimist and it's depressing to think about!!

After the performance yesterday (I watched a stream) with all the the old problems evident PvA anywhere but at LB etc...I do wonder if I can stir my stumps to go on wednesday?

We need at least a LB, CB, Striker and a CM/attacker and that could cost plenty. Short has spent lots and what have we ended up with very little...I reckon Sam like Dick could walk if he does not get the players he wants and we need.

Has to be a concern why Sam didn't adopt the tried and trusted formula against City,ie play deep and narrow, work your socks off and pick off a very porous defence on the break
Allardyce clearly isn't an idiot so I can only assume he doesn't think he has the players at his disposal to effect such a tactic, does still seem odd to play so open at the Etihad though as that can only really end in a hiding
    Missed cattermole massively

The players can't play any system, style or tactic. We can't even play a back 4, the bread and butter backline <laugh>

The question you need to ask of your team marra is why you didn't score more? :

He picked a team with a number of things in mind....he wasn't going to get anything out this game...there's a lot of games coming up with a very limited squad....more chance to get something out of the Liverpool game....and certainly hopefully Villa straight after. A big message across to the players that seemed to have been bitching about getting game time....ok you want it...let's see what you can do against City....obviously they totally failed. As you said Sam's not an idiot....just used this game for various purposes in the grand scheme of this season. He knows that he is now into mass clear out and bring hopefully many new players in....on that point....any chance of getting Aguerro on loan till the end of the season....lol?
