Angry, flabbergasted, sad, disappointed are my first 4 reactions. Loss of respect my 5th.
Really thought our days of ridiculous transfers were on the way out. In the past we have payed miles and miles over the odds, now we have one of the biggest talents around, not only do we freeze him out, sell him to the biggest Club in the PL, we virtually give him away !!!
50 mill for the log Torres 2 years ago and 37 mill for Mata ???????
Some things never change and one of them is Chelseas' revolting attitude to money. They insult the fans yet again.
Good luck to Juan, he is right to leg it from us as quickly and as far as he can, but Utd is the last place I think he should go, they are in for at least 2 years of pain before they start to come good. Spain is where he should head.

CP, absolutely spot on.

Im absolutely fuming. I fully expect somebody from the club to come out, take responsibility and try and put forward some kind of explanation for how this deal will be good for a) chelsea football club and b) the supporters. Not that that's likeley though. Chelsea really know how to hurt their own fans: first RDM, then Benitez and now this, (in recent history). It beggars belief we'd sell one of the WORLDS best players to a direct rival after last summer they refused point blank to do the same. Yes we get 37M, but thats not a lot of money in todays game and knowing our scouting network we'll spunk it on *insert overhyped big named player here* ala torres and shevshenko.

Ive tried and tried to give the club and jose the bennefit of the doubt this year and they've turned round and cock slapped me in the face. Im actually a mug.

P.S. jose try getting this 'wonderful' system of yours to play some fing good football for once.

I'm gobsmacked! Once again it's a triumph for short-term bean counting over the bigger picture I can't believe we could be this stupid; another blinder by Jose & the Board to go along with the Lukaku episode - a swap for Rooney would've sweeten the pill instead we give them a quality playmaker at bargain basement price if Torres was worth 50M, Mata should be worth at least that......geez!

Why do you think it's short term? How do you know what the bigger picture is? And be clear here, Jose had the say on this not RA,not the board, Jose and only Jose.

I think this might be a bit of shrewd business by JM/Chelsea. £37m for a player warming the bench is a very decent sum. Mata has had a poor season. When he has played he hasn't impressed me, where as Willian, Oscar & Hazard have all looked good imo. Football is a fickle business.

Chelsea are the only top 6 team to have played Utd home and away this season by my memory? If Mata does improve Utd, can we expect them to take a few points off Chelsea's league rivals?

I wonder if UTD will see Roo to you in the summer, as part of the deal.

I've said as much on another thread. Would explain the relative ease you've got Mata. Selling Rooney now would negate the positive impact of Mata coming in and would be a PR disaster for Moyes at this stage of his tenure. But in the summer they can say they had to sell as Rooney wouldn't sign a new deal and have time to get in a replacement if need be.

All speculation I guess.

It took just over a year but all things come to those who wait.

Oh and btw, OsGOD, you're a moron mate.

I may well be an idiot, a tool and a moron but …..

It appears that there’s only going to be one JM at SB and he is of the same opinion as me.

Is Jose an idiot and a tool?

Jose Moronho?

I’m still not saying Juan Mata is a BAD player but his style isn’t the Jose style. I think the “world class” label is misplaced when he can’t command a regular/guaranteed starting place on his national team. And I wouldn’t have sold Mata to Utd but I reckon Jose knows a lot more than me or anybody else on this forum.

United have be really grateful to Jose for the deal. Irrespective of how he will improve a very poor United team, the boost to morale and to Moyes and to the United executive in pulling off such a high profile deal is incalculable, certainly worth more than £37m. <ok>

Agree with this. He is a good player but he doesn'suit our style. We have got a good price for him as United are so desperate to sign someone. I would have been more concerned if we had sold them Hazard or Oscar.

I agree. You are at such a low ebb that even signing another no 10 for £80m in wages and fees, on top of £18m Kagawa, £28m AM Fellaini, and begging your main no 10 with £78m to stay, is a good move at this point in time.

That's £250m plus on wages and fees for the no 10 shirt.

£nited are trying to buy their way into the top 4.

No one could argue that signing mata has not been an incredible boost to £nited fans though, as it has even brought Wums like you out of hiding for the first time in months. <ok>
