Which is exactly what Shergar is saying, the 3 tied for 6th will lose a third of their bet because effectively they are 6th, 7th and 8th
So you agree with STH that Mickleson and Rose being in a 2 way tie for 2nd will get place deductions? That is what he is saying, which is complete nonsense.
No it's not as in a 2 way tie for 2nd. Half your place money has finished 2nd and half 3rd. Which are both winning places. So both halfs of your place money have won
So people who bet on Rose and Big Phil get their stake halved for coming tied 2nd but people who bet on Rory who came 4th by himself will get all their stake, even though he was worse than the other two?
I've been betting on golf for years, in majors and in regular tournaments and in my experience the way Shergar is explaining it is the way my payouts have worked. If your bookie is paying 6/7 places for the Masters then if you had an E/W bet on any of Mickelson, Rose, McIlroy or Matsuyama then you SHOULD be paid full place pay outs as these players filled the top 5 placings (along with Spieth obviously) regardless of any ties. The ties for 6th are where it becomes confusing, e/w bets on Casey, Poulter and Johnson will be deducted accordingly as these ties take you out of the 6/7 placings which the bookie gave you.
Also, online and in shop rules may differ, I do all my betting online so I'm not sure of in shop rules.
YES,the bet is EW so if you finish 2nd or 6th don't matter as long as ties don't come into it,similar to Grand National yesterday you got paid for first 5 and no places were DHed.
But if you are tied for second (in this instance)you are still in the ew pay out group. You can apologise tomorrow when you get paid out in full mate.
Taking the grand national as an example, let's say that Saint Are and Monbeg Dude had tied for 2nd. 1st - Many Clouds 2nd - Saint Are and Monbeg Dude 4th - Alvarado 5th - Shutthefrontdoor All 5 places would still get a full pay out as it's still the same 5 horses, the DH doesn't matter, the only way the DH rule would come into play would be if it was a DH for 1st, then stakes would be halved on the winner(s)
