Legwinski is exactly the kind of player we needed IMO and he had a really good season for us, very good player.
Bullard on loan, he was a class act, actually probably the best midfield performer I have seen at the club he was just a class above anyone in that division when he was on loan!!
I agree with Supers and tractorbhoy, I really rated Garvan, such a waste of potential!! I have never seen a 17yo be able to control a game like he did. He still can, unfortunately whether it was his bad attitude or poor coaching he has never lived up to it!! He always got criticised for being lazy but for me I don't think he was, he was slow and not particularly great in the tackle but just because he didn't run around like a headless chicken people thought he wasn't trying combining that with his lack of pace. I thought actually he was fairly intelligent defensively, abit like Carrick, not the most tenacious midfielder but his positional play and awareness made up for that. Positional awareness IMO is one of the most important things in a player and he had it, along with players like McAuley, Chopra & Bullard and dare I say Holt has superb positional awareness, but many supporters can rarely see this and often take things as who runs around alot or is strong etc which is why IMO Delaney and Norris were awful players because their positional sense was awful!!
& I agree supers I think Garvan was treated poorly particularly by Keane who seemed to not give him a chance. He had a man of the match performance and if he made 1 mistake in the next match he got taken off at half time!! I do think it's a shame we didn't have a manager come in after Jim who could get the best out of Garvan and Walters, we lost 2 very good players there but because they didn't play well under Keane(noone did) people thought they were rubbish and weren't too dissapointed to see them leave!! I really thought he was destined for big things, there aren't many players in this day and age who are play makers in his mould.
I have to say I never rated Trotter, I thought he was the complete opposite to Garvan, lumbering around the pitch with no talent, I thought he was only in the team because of his physical attributes, everytime I saw him I thought he was terrible. Tbf to the lad he's done well and I don't really begrudge the club for not doing more to keep him, it was just one of those things!!!
I though Gavin Williams on his day was a superb midfielder when he was up to full match fitness he was one of the best midfielders in the division, unfortunately he was rarely match fit and when he wasn't match fit he was rubbish!!
