that's not the point... whelan is the ****ehawk with the big mouth and rotten pitch and fans... who booed suarez and got him another match btw. Martinez is in the middle and we'll see if the "american owners" and MR Henry have approached him or not soon enough I am firmly of the opinion wigan like blackburn lost thier right to prem status merely by fan lack of interest.
This. How about Whelan keeps quiet, let the process come to a conclusion (Whatever that may be) and then talk about it. Doesn't need to tell the media everything.
Roberto Matrinez..the job is yours: Source:http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11682/7778203/Martinez-offered-Liverpool-job.
Of course he is stirring again, it's not even a joke that Whelan has a seperate phone in his office which goes direct to SSN. It's all about boosting his own profile off the back of others, he has always done this in both football and business interests. This is the bloke that said yesterday, shortly before lunchtime that Martinez was in Barbados until Tuesday. Only 3 or so hours later, he's on the hotline again to say that he actually isn't in Barbados, he's in Miami. Then today he starts with this one as well, he is an absolute gobs***e. I didn't read any further into it last night, but apparently Talksport had said he wasn't in Miami to talk to Liverpool, but to actually speak with Villa representatives. Not sure how true this was.
I know you don't want to hear this, but Whelan is just being smart and protecting his football club. When Liverpool appointed Hodgson from Fulham, Fulham played nicely and Liverpool took their sweet time in appointing him. When he eventually left Craven Cottage, Fulham had to scramble for a replacement and ended up with a marriage of convenience with Mark Hughes. They effectively lost a summer of team building and that left them in the relegation battle come Christmas. Now, Wigan do not have the quality in their squad that Fulham did and are not coming off the back of a European final. They can't afford to lose a summer and have a similar slide as they'll likely end up in the Championship. Whelan is attempting to force the hands of Liverpool/Villa so that he will know by the end of May if he still has Martinez or not. He can then appoint a new manager quickly if needed and give Wigan a fighting chance of regrouping before next season.
That's my main concern. Saying that, none of us thought Hodgson would sign someone like Meireles, that came out of the blue.
Wasn't the Meireles deal in place from when Rafa was manager? Or am I thinking about another transfer?
there were rumours at the time meireles deal was done the previous year under rafa... funny it got completed really.. anyway fulham and roy... well that was amateur hour really. this year whelan is agitating strongly and he doesn't need to do it really cos he's the one looking pretty weak to any future hire if martinez does go to us or villa.... the thing is his deadline is totally meaningless to anyone really... he knows we want to get things done shortly anyway so is playing the guy i ncontrol but hasn't a clue whats going on since he gave permission to talk. He thinks an offer was made = he didn't really talk to martinez
Don't think it would help. A DoF is not going to get Champions League football. We will move backwards. We'll get untried players in, and the likes of Pepe, Luis and Skrtel will say "**** this joke" and not let the door hit them on the ass, and we will be mid-table. Now if we were totally ****ed and in chronic shape, then I'd agree that a new rebuilding plan was needed, but we are not, and it is not, we were so close, just one or two players, and it looks like the **** stupid yanks are going to throw it all away to start from scratch.
He's not being smart. He's being a gossiping little ****. If he wanted to protect his club, he can just phone up Henry and politely ask him to be quick in their decision marking regarding Martinez so that they can prepare for next season with or without him. All he's doing now, is pissing people off and making himself and Wigan look like gossip queens with no confidentiality. Also, if Martinez ends up staying, surely he's not going to be happy having ultimatums thrown around in the media, the fans also won't be happy knowing how eager he was to quit and will lose supporters along the way. If he leaves, Whelan will look like he's half pushed him out rather than let him go. Anyway... Apparantly Martinez wasn't offered the manager's job. He was offered an opportunity for further talks which to me sounds like a narrowing down of the shortlist.
What if Whelan forces Martinez to make his feelings known by said deadline and Roberto says he wants to join one of them if the job is offered? But then Liverpool or Villa don't approach Martinez...? #atmosphere #arkward
My tweet to John Henry... @John_W_Henry if you have appointed @JenChang88 as our Director of Communications, why is Dave Whelan doing the job??
****, he's doing it to the mancs too! http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/25/sir-alex-ferguson-retirement-date
Haha, he's such an embarassment to Wigan...he'll be writing for the S*N soon, just chatting **** and making up stuff if nothing else
Surely Martinez has to bare some of the responsibility for whelans mouthing off, the fact that he can't keep this in house makes me feel he's not the man for Lfc and the yanks should see that too!
Matinez was great for us as an attacking minded manager, but he was reminiscentof the Keegan ethos (as long as we score more than the other team). A few years on, you would hope he'd learnt a few new tricks, one things for sure ... he will want the team playing footbal. My worry is, could he handle your club/pressure/players. I doubt it, but I hope I'm wrong (even if he is a ****ing Judas)
He did well at Swansea and likes to build an ethos throughout the club. I'm glad (if true) that he is demanding to do the same kind of job, it shows that he has a backbone and is not just jumping in at this opportunity.
