Because it would take a mad man to buy a football club with a recent turnover of £65 million+ and operating expenses of £70 million+ in todays economic climate where the banks are no longer lending money. A new owner would need 1/2 billion at the absolute minimum. I don't think Short would sell the club to anybody who he didn't think could progress the club, unless he has financial concerns of his own and needs to make a sale.

    but 2 things

Why is Short getting bored? Bruce is great for Short.

Why would we need another 1/2 billionaire owner, to buy the club maybe, but even if we got Warren Buffet as owner, he couldnt spend jack squat of his own cash on the team. (if we want Europe)

How much would Sunderland be sold for these days? £50 million? Thats a lot of money for someone to spend if they have less than £500 million because its not just a case of spending for success, which you rightly highlight as no longer being possible under FPP, its also a case of propping up the economic reality of a relegation which could cost another £30-40 million.

If I had £500 million I would think very carefully before buying a premier league club these days.

The owner of QPR only has a 300 million fortune (only i say, i wish) so it is possible, but anyway i really dont think Short is getting bored at all, its a hell of a challenge, and I really hope he is up to it, not just the team but increasin the turnover, which will increase our wage cap, which will = better players, which will = moving up the league (we hope) which will = we can keep them.

I hope your right... It's a bit of a change in climate form having Sir Niall making regular statements to having the silence of Short.

Any of the below (out of work managers) would do for me

    Rafa Benitez
    Hiddink
    Hughes
    MoN
    Van Basten

Don't get the constant love fest with him to be fair. Moody sod and never won much south of Scotland. Would cost a packet too. Still be nice to have a fan in charge even if he is ooooooiirsh. Not bothered but would not be upset if he came

Martin O Neill would be a complete breath of fresh air at a club that is suffocating under the current regime.

With O Neill I'd immediately fancy us to win against Wigan and Blackburn and get a draw at Wolves. More importantly, I'd fancy us to be far better with the much harder games to follow them.

With Bruce in charge I cant see us getting more than 7 points in the next 7 games up to the end of December.

This - 100% - MoN is not my cup of tea either - The way he walked out on Villa after spending loads of money was a joke (and the timing as well) - if he does that to us then what happens? He also doesn't play the most attractive football in the world and once he sees how fast Elmo is and how good he is in the air, he'll start every game and lump the ball to him.

BTW - I know that is our current tactic but I want things to change - Hughes or maybe an international name - hear that Arsenal fans were shouting for Wenger's name a few weeks ago - I'd have him..... <whistle>

A premier league club outside the top 4 will almost never run at a profit - You have to invest to raise a profile and try to get your name out rather than to make money - kind of a loss leader so to speak 0- Who had heard of Ellis Short or the Lonestar brand before he took over Sunderland?

If you are like Abramovich or those at man City where money is not important as you have so much of it that 100 million is a drop in the ocean, then great, otherwise there is very little opportunity to make a great deal of money in the PL.

Why does everyone say O Neill plays ****e football? In his second season at Villa, he had a team that scored 71 goals that season - a record only bettered at the club by the 1981 European cup winning team. He also had 3 cup finals and 2 wins at Leicester and a cup final with Villa. He won countless trophies at Celtic, not as easy as some would have us believe (just ask Neil Lennon) and has a record that no SAFC manager has had post war. He led Villa from the bottom of the EPL when he came to 3 consecutive top 6 finishes as well.

Also, just when did we have a peroid of watching great football exactly to complain about MoN's style or credibility? We had 2 or 3 years under Reid and there were spells under Smith and Durban but they were intertwined with 25 years of utter cak football.

If MoN came here, played hoof ball every week (which he doesnt btw) and won a cup, I wouldnt give a flying ****. At the moment I am watching football that makes paint drying observation sound exciting and have about as much chance of winning something as Bruce has of not making excuses for failing.

O Neill would be a superb manager for us. No question about it.

He spent a **** load of money on that team as well though Cest - if he comes here he may not be able to do that as the owner/chairman seems to be a bit more frugal with the money.

They were not pretty to watch even when they did score 71 goals - they were effective - I'd trade what we've got now for "ugly but effective" but O'Neil plays a long ball game - Not strictly Hoofball in the style of Stoke but more get it in the channels and cross the ball - has everywhere he's been - moreso at Villa than anywhere else.

I'm not saying that we are playing good football now or have done (other than brief glimpses) for a while, just that MoN needs money to succeed and lots of it - which we don't appear to have

no thanks to both MON and Benitez.

If Short decides Bruce needs to go

Hughes, Hiddink, Van Basten would have to be on the top of the list, but I am sure the list would be much longer than that - I am sure Quinn and Short will cast the net far and wide.

"I would have crawled up the M1 on hands and knees over broken glass to be manager at Roker Park."

That gents is passion. Said by one of the greatest managers who ever lived. A manager we foolishly turned away!
Of all the names bandied about to succeed Bruce, the only one with any personal affinity to our club is MON.
The two clubs he supported as a boy were Celtic and the lads. He's already managed Celtic with great success, after his lengthy lay off from the game I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to take over our hot seat.
And maybe just maybe, some of his own boyhood passion for SAFC would come with him.

I couldn't give a flying **** about Martin the twat TBH.

The horrible **** defended Celtic fans for singing IRA chants.

Do not want anything to do with such a bastard.

He can go **** himself. I'd rather stick with Bruce than that four eyed scum bag.
