The same thing happens in any country, political system, race or religion.

I personally think MLK jr did more good than bad in his life.

And tbh any indiscretions he may or may not have been involved in have vanished in the mists of time.

Fair enough if thats the view you hold <ok>

I disagree with it as I think the civil rights movement was gathering pace and would have been different and quicker if not for MLKJ, guess we willl never know
I think he has the blood of some of the civil rights people on his hands

So in essence for me he did more bad than good

As for his indiscretions, they havent disappeared as such they are just not made overtly public

Its a bit like diane abbot and Obama, she thinks he has been good despite ****in up the country and negating on promises during his election. why? because he is black and to have a black president is more important than having a good one

With MLKJ it is another figure we 'have' to love and venerate, yet the man was a scumbag imo

My dad and grandparents had to hide for weeks after he got shot because of all of the rioting in Memphis, what he preached against. Again, I wasn't around then, what do his wife and kids say? He had a peaceful approach to a very violent problem ( lynch mobs, segregation, KKK, etc) and in the end we now have a lot more equality in our nation and a lot of it is thanks to him. Whether he got billy big boots in the end and started to enjoy the famdom, we are a better nation for what he was trying to do.

If all of the prostitutes thing is true, I agree that is wrong that a man of the cloth does that. Seems all preachers and reverends have some sort of dark skeletons in the closet.

Anyway, I only put it up as it is a big deal for me as I am from Memphis and as mentioned know of the horror stories of the time that my family went through and I was able to grow up with kids of all races and creeds and I thank Martin.Michael King Jr for that. Also to shed some light on what real racism is and that we need to overcome this stigma we have suddenly adopted as a club, which irks me.

Yes we can!! I know the man did have a **** load on his plate but the fractions between the demo's and repubs is alarming and very worrying. I am not into politics at allbut I can that these guys want him out pronto.

BTW, good on you to not just fling insults because of conflicting views, it is nice to see around here, where usually if the views are different sides it is a slagging match.

mate I abhorr racism and have been a proponent of anti racism all my life

and I can only imagine what life was like in the US at that time

One thing i do do though , and much to the chagrin/disappointment of some, is explore issues. For example in this country I believe the Racial Equality counciles and CRE's are the biggest advocates for racism

I believe the so called 'moderate muslims' that the government has on their payroll (and looked to by the public) are more dangerous than the terrorists

I have seen first hand how some of the 'friendly' agencies work and how in fact some of the 'enemy' are in fact allies/friends

As i say these are just my opinions and views and if they differ so be it

Was on my way to New Orleans(by road)about 4yrs ago and one the last towns in TX before crossing into Louisiana is Vidor,Stopped off there for something to eat and said to the person i was with that it was strange not seeing any black people the whole time we were there, she told me it was a KKK town and that black people wont/cant live there for fear of violence against them.

Dont these racist KKK ****s know by now that they're outdated views are totally out of sync in the modern world.

I generally try and avoid insults etc unless someone starts slinging them and it gets too much, I actually enjoy a decent debate

As for the Obama thing, believe me when I say that nothing would please me more than seeing a black man as president or prime minister of all countries.

What does Irk me is if it puts the process back 50 years.

The point I was making with Diane Abbot was that she just can not discuss the topic and will not let any one say how a policy may be bad
For me yes celebrate the fact but account him as you would any other

If anything as 'black' people we should show the world that we are fair and just and will judge by actions not skin colour

I ive in stoke mate and we had the whole BNP getting elected in some of our wards. Was working at the city council at the time and my role involved working with councillors

wasnt pleasnt I can tell you

Many people saw their election as a 'protest vote' against the main stream parties. In all honesty that thought didnt help the ethnic minorities

Well, what do you know? Both Martin Luther King and Martin Luther ferguson are both Capricorns.

I wonder if King Jr had all his friends on an FA 'independent' committee too?
