He was injury prone at City before he joined us. Awful signing and not just in hindsight.

His problem has always been application but apparently even before he left Everton the coaches had concerns so they snapped City's hand off when they came calling.

He could've been a canny footballer but I've never seen anyone hide as much or show as little heart as him on a football pitch.

The interesting story there was the penalty against us at Fleetwood, a former ref said no penalty when he viewed, and what about the 2 disallowed goals ? the sending's off ? i will be watching charlie wyke closely tomorrow and see what the ref gives or does not give for/against him. As for Rodwell we should have signed Milner instead of him !

I’ve not even read it. I know he’s a useless footballer that had all the talent but not one bit of gritt and determination to go without **** him..

To be fair, he probably never stops moving, as long as he's jogging alongside one of their players and doesn't have to get out of 2nd gear.

Rodwell was definitely a scapegoat here in the sense that he was the player that most symbolized the culmination of everything wrong at the club. We were overpaying in fees and wages for names who were mercenaries, didn't have the desire or professionalism to put in the work and treated us like a holiday camp whilst collecting their inflated wages.

Rodwell was absolutely hung out to dry by the club to dry for the failings of the whole club, but his own failings were definitely central to that.

Good to see Congerton's still getting around

You can't blame Wilder for talking up his latest freebie. Happy to grant him some happy time before the truth reveals itself (or rather doesn't).

He was more of a posterboy than a scapegoat which implies it wasn't his fault.

Not sure how he was hung out to dry by the club when we had a very pleasant manager at the time in Coleman who would have welcomed him with open arms had he been willing to earn his pay.

Valid points - Posterboy is probably more appropriate than scapegoat.

I think he was hung out to dry in the sense that the club made public that they offered him a free transfer - effectively allowing the fans to blame him for not walking away from £70k a week.

I'm not saying he didn't deserve what he got, just that the club had no problem whatsoever in throwing him to the wolves.

The biggest failing in Rodwell’s career was clear.

He simply didn’t turn out anywhere near as good as he looked like he might.

    He’s an average Championship player..

Rodwell is a workshy lazy bastard and Wilder is getting off lucky compared to what Rodwell deserves

Did Coleman not say everyone had a clean slate and they needed everyone to perform? In his first training session Rodwell pulled up with 10 minutes to go saying he was injured and they never saw him again?

He clearly has metal health issues which are conveniently ignored because there are millions of pounds in fees at stake.

They've gone from club to club peddling him picking up their cut each time knowing he hides every time he goes on the pitch.

It is disgraceful but safc has nothing to be ashamed of. The amount of money we lost could've set up a mental health charity for years.

Without a doubt the player I hate most in the history of our club.

This is what frustrates me about him more than anything. He has all the tools in his locker, the physique, the engine, everything. He just doesn't seem to want to actually be a footballer (he likes the money mind). I know he was painted as the villain in Sunderland Til I Die (for obvious reasons) but when he is asked if he is playing at the weekend and responds with 'no chance mate!', I want to throw something at the TV. Most of us would play for Sunderland with our leg hanging off for free...
