As supporters we don't really care who plays for or manages the club as long as we are improving and winning games....Quite simply 38 pts in the season which is our form for the first quarter of the season is not good enough. Coupled seemingly with a dressing room that is not together is a recipe for disaster. Yes we all love Mad Dog for his quirks, funny stories and strange team talks but footballing wise the last 23 games in total have yielded just 5 wins & 3 of those were Faversham, Ashford and Bromley. Dressing room togetherness is so vital at any level and when you hear of players divided into cliques its not a good sign of things to come. Add to that the Payne, Jacko and Patto sagas which may or may not have been down to Allen i think perhaps PS has done the right thing. I've even heard poor old John Plummer (groundsman) struggled to work with MA....did he announce is he going at the end of the season? MA has had a wonderful 16 months at GFC and given us all a title to shout about and a season to remember forever. I for one am sad he has gone for the energy and positive aura he gave the club but feel footballing/results wise it may be for the best. Onwards and upwards COYG
I am surprised that people are surprised. When MA was appointed we all knew he had had 9 manager jobs in 9 years. Now he has had 10 in 10 as was widely predictable. What everyone has to recognise is that managing Gills is a twin track job. Track one is to achieve some success on the pitch. Track two is to produce an income stream from developing and selling young talent. Only Hessy has come near to delivering on both tracks and it is no good delivering on one track only. Sadly MA went backwards on the financial challenge and it is a fact (not a criticism) that Scally makes his living from Gills unlike most, more wealthy owners. Having said that, I think it is foolish to axe him now. MA was no good at building a team for the long term, and his style of football was dire for a spectator but he was strong on short term motivation which is precisely what is needed in a relegation scrap. His successor will need to be a magician to succeed with no new money and to get players with limited ability to play better, they are already giving their best but are not quite good enough.
Gees, that's a bit harsh throwoff. PS did save the club, yes. And that's not exactly a small matter is it? Contains a fair bit of gold does that particular pot imho. If he weren't here, none of us would be either. I will grant you that he does not appear to be an angel, some of his decisions seem weird and he certainly is not a PR expert. But , he has presided over 4 promotions, our only 2 Wembley appearances ever, an FA Cup Quarter final (only our 2nd ever?), more wins over top-tier teams than in our entire previous history and our first Title in 50 years. And for the past 18 or so years (maybe not this season) , the man has constantly backed his managers in the transfer market. We paid unheard of (for us) sums for the likes of Sarbs & SuperBob. I am not a Scally lover, or a Scally hater. But to say he's running our club into the ground is a bit off the mark I reckon. And as someone else mentioned, if he wanted to do that, it could easily have happened way before now.
There was me thinking we'd been to Wembley 3 times, Man City, Wigan and Shrewsbury. But I get your point.
"Scally lies" Yet you clearly support the idea that "the lads gave 110%" ..... "the lads never stopped running".... "we just need a bit of luck"......"we deserved to get something" Either MA is prone to Factual in-exactitudes or he is totally delusional.
jackubu...I can see your link to a blog that has gone into moderation. You are clearly a newbie and not registered as a Gills supporter so it will not be released. May I suggest to help you out, you create an article on here with the detail. I'm sure the Gills supporters woud be interested in what you have to say but as a site article and not self promotion word press...thanks
The link i posted was to a small article i wrote regarding the sacking of Allen. Personally as a Leicester fan i dont know a great deal about the runnings of the club but from the outside all it seems is that Allen had achieved promotion and was slowly but surely getting stability in League 1. It seemed very harsh to sack him for what he had done for the club. Surely he deserved a better chance in the league. Although slightly crazy and manic i wouldnt doubt his motivating abilities?
