Based on current squads, I would say Spurs were slightly ahead.

I say it depends on the position. I really do think most of Spurs defenders are average at best, and up front they have gone down hill. They are strong out wide, and have Modric, but I think every where else Liverpool come out on top.

I'm not too sure, I would have definetly said so at Christmas - but now? Well, Spurs let us make some major ground over them since Kenny came in, so I think we're about even at the moment. We have a better first team and they have a better squad in my opinion.

Jesus H Christ! Can you be more deluded than this?

How on earth do you reckon that you have a better first team than us? Our players are better in every single position on the park. The only player I would take off you is Suarez, and that's only because he'd make a good bench-warmer for VDV. Even Gerrard is long past his sell-by date. There is not one player of yours that would get an automatic first team place in our squad. And that is FACT!

A lot of people are saying Liverpool need to include a marquee signings of around £30mill in their summer transfer plans.

Sure I can see the benefit of this, it would be a great signal of intent and COULD seriously improve the squad.

But is it really that necessary to spend so big on 1 player as long as the teams weaker points are strengthened enough.

After the signing of Suarez, who has done a lot for Liverpool already and added some great flare, and the big money splashed on Carroll, a great messege of intent and bravery, I am not sure a marquee signing is worth it. Unless that player is seen as the number 1 best player to improve the team they should not be signed.

What are your thoughts on this? Should a marquee signing be made for the sake of it? For the sake of a message?

Football is not just about collecting names.

What marquee player is gonna join liverpool<laugh> 35million on sh.it carroll<laugh> you only signed Suarez cause of Torres money

Pretty true tbh, and not just as a spurs fan. You spent a ridiculous amount on Carroll, WHY??????? I'd argue a couple of their players might get in our squad, Johnson would for example, we're fairly weak at the back, and Reina would for sure

Are you really that thick? Amazing.

Why? Because we'd just got 50m for Torres and had less than an hour to secure the services of a target man, said target man also had to be able to get to Liverpool and have a medical before the deal is confirmed. That's why.

I'd rather give Walker a chance, and keep Corluka. Johnson is too error-prone in defence.

I think Cuducini is just as good. And Brad Friedal, for that matter.

Oh my, please stop now.. you're making a fool of yourself! <laugh>

I don't think we need ''marquee signings''.
We just need players to compliment what we have got.We need two wingers to bring the best out of Andy Carroll. We also need a deep-lying play-maker to make use of those wingers. We also need a left back because Konchesky is useless and Aurelio is un-reliable.And having an experienced left back will help bring Jack Robinson on.We also need a centre back because Soto is leaving after the 30th of June.Possibly another striker when we possibly sell Ngog.

To restore some sanity to spurs, Reina was the 3rd best keeper in the PL last season. Only Van Der Sar and Cech were better. With VDS gone, Reina is at minimum the 2nd best, unless Utd buy someone really good

Cuducini wasn't given a chance, though, was he. Not for any length of time.

So your saying Friedel and Gomez are better than Pepe Reina, who got the golden glove 3 seasons running and is one of the premier leagues most successful stoppers. That I really dont believe.

And Lucas is far better than Sandro and Palacios.

Just compare Spurs defensive stats to Liverpools and you will see a mountain difference, with Liverpool at the top.

Proof http://soccernet.espn.go.com/stats/_/league/eng.1/barclays-premier-league?cc=5739

Liverpool 14 clean sheets, Spurs 8. I confess Liverpool on conceded 2 goals less, but Liverpool scored 4 more.

FSG are well aware that promising youth alone is not enough. They've spent big and broken records with the Sox for star players and now broken a transfer record with Liverpool and Carroll. Word is many Premier League managers said privately it was a brilliant signing.

More importantly, FSG have outbid the rival Yankees on players because they realise the extra value of something like that. It sparks the whole club and isn't just a sign of intent.

I don't want to get into names too much because you never really know - we expected more from Joe Cole, we didn't expect Soto to be as useful as he was for £2m and nobody could've predicted Suarez's start.

I wanted Downing when Boro got to the Eufa Cup final. He was their best player in that run. When Capello came in to the England job he was asked who'd surprised him most in the squad. "Downing," he said. He's improved at Villa and he might improve even more with better players to supply. But I wouldn't call him a marquee signing anyway.

Cuducini wasn't given a chance, though, was he. Not for any length of time.

Mate he wasn't given much of a chance becaues he was past his best when you got him off Chelsea. If you'd bought him 3 years earlier when he was rotting on the Chelsea bench, you might of had a fantastic deal, because on his day he was one of the best.

You're comparing has been's/those whose best years have passed, to that of someone who is in their prime and regulary wins acolades for their performances.

Friedel is excellent but he's no Reina. Gudicini was excellent, but certainly not now. Gomes is Gomes.

Hello, new poster here!

Would love any out of Mata, (Adam) Johnson, Jones, Henderson and Enrique at a good price.

Would take N'Zogbia, Wickham, Young and bring back Aquilani (if he wants to be here).

but not a massive fan of Adam, Downing and especially not Joey Barton!

Get rid of Konchesky, Poulson, Cole, El Zhar and possibly N'Gog.

Welcome to the site! I agree with all that, especialy us not having Downing and selling Poulsen and N'terrible.

I'v never actualy watched Wickham or Mata, he is actualy that good?

I have a feeling United will get young, and we will get Charles. To be fair his stats were just as good as Young in a far worse team, and he would be cheeper.
