With no Saints for another week and a half, I thought I would do a quick poll on Marmite For what it is worth I LOVE it and it is my secret ingredient in my Bolognese (using my Mamma’s recipe).
Yes, I love it too, though I don't eat it regularly, which means I sometimes find I'm asking myself the vital question which is... 'why don't I eat this stuff more regularly, cause I love it'. I still don't know. And yes, I discovered Marmite in a ragu sauce aided the flavour, a decade or two back. Trouble is, I've always considered it cheating. Don't ask me why, because I don't know the answer to that either. Probably because mia mamma didn't do it. EDIT: One thing. When I lived in NZ I went into a supermarket and found no genuine Marmite. So I bought the 'marmite' from the people who make Vegemite [which in itself is ok]. Can't remember the company name. It was vomit inducing and caused me to get a commercial sized genuine Marmite jar shipped over from the UK.
It’s alright. I mean, spread on toast, if there’s nothing else, it’ll do. Rather have a decent marmalade though.
I would never voluntarily eat it again, but I could eat it if I had to (spread thinly on toast), so although I voted 'hate it' that isn't technically true. My category would be 'dislike it, but could eat at a push'.
I like Marmite flavoured things like Twiglets, crisps and rice cakes but I much prefer what it was originally a by product of!...
My dear old mum used to add it to gravy. I love it in sandwiches with cheese and/or cucumber, as well as on toast. My wife hates it, which gave us (me) a hilarious moment many years ago. My missus would, if you weren’t looking, take a bite out of any sandwich I made myself, until that fateful day when she found herself eating Marmite and cheese. Her face was a picture.
Reminds me of the time when there was a tray of sushi at work and I took a piece and gave it to a mate saying it was confectionary, my pleasure at watching his smile turn to ewww when he ate it was pure shadenfreude...
You know what, I didn’t taste peanut butter until I was 27. Love it now, but never had it as a kid (I’m 49 now btw if you all didn’t know )
