I went to Thailand about 8 weeks before the Tsunami, it was an amazing holiday we were in Phuket but if you want to travel anywhere you can hire a tuc tuc (tiny taxi my interpretation) and negotiate a price with the driver for the day, or just the journey one way. Food is amazing, people are amazing, and you'll get to party with the Aussies, lots of them about. Fair few dodgey blokes hanging round the young girls which is not nice, apart from that it was great.

Except if you're driving, the signs may say Efes (like the beer). Ephesus is the greek word for it.

Whilst on the subject of holidays
If anyone wants a cheapish holiday in country with very decent weather look no further than Bulgaria(Sunny Beach)
absolutely beautiful and as they have not joined the Euro's yet the power of the pound will get good value for money.

I was in Marmaris last year and really liked it. It was my first Turkish holiday so had no expectations, haggling and bartering is not my thing, but apart from that it was a good experience. We brought home quite a lot of our Turkish lira, the locals like to take the British £. From we got on the bus to transfer from the airport we were asked if we wanted to use £'s, the bus driver was selling 2 bottles of water for £1.
It is quite a hike from the airport if you're doing a package holiday, the tour operators stop in the middle of nowhere at a small purpose built eating/market place and it is used by several tour operators so it makes a long journey even longer.
I agree spirits are too expensive but the local beer effess is quite nice. Hope you enjoy it though, I would definitely go back. :emoticon-0100-smile

UH OH, Sorry Alfie, did not realise you were going with your wife, most important thing if you use any of the local bars toilets may be an issue, some have no running water so not only can you not wash your hands, you have to scoop water into a jug to flush.
Sorry, I hate toilet talk but wish I'd known before. It's Mrs lovethisforum by the way so I'm speaking from experience. :emoticon-0111-blush

You'll love Phuket Alfie it is mint! lovethisforum has captured the pro's and con's of the town perfectly so won't say any more. Would recommend an excursion to the Phi Phi Islands though if you get the chance. Really beautiful and quiet (The Beach was filmed there if you saw that?). You can get there on a power boat tour and is not too expensive. Take your mask and snorkel because you will get the chance to swim off some coral reefs of the back of the boats when you get there and from another island on the way. May also take in James Bond Island (Scaramanga's island in Man with the Golden Gun) and a visit to a sea gypsy village (interesting and disturbing in equal measure).

Actually though even though you are there with your wife be prepared to be approached by the ladies of the night even in your wife's presence, they will assume that any man is up for their wares. My girlfriend found it funny but just to be forewarned! ;)

Just got back from Ibiza, good craic but disgusted in how expensive everything is. It's actually cheaper in Vegas. Watching the sunset at Cafe Mambo was priceless though.

I hear Pardew is in advanced talks with a Tunisian striker called Cwarrisatwat who plays for talltail fc. Apparently hes a bit tempramental and often fails to deliver after much early promise....
