Mark McCammon - a message for you

Oxon... oh dear seem to have hit a nerve.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion and my comment was not a personal attack on you (unlike yours) I merely used your comment to highlight the my general point (also possible it stood out more than other being in block capitals).

All I was saying is thart this issue must be taken with the highest seriousness, racism is still a blight to this great game of ours and every accusation must be looked at. Of course I hope that the club if found innocent, and for the record I believe it will, but a proper investigation must be undertaken to prove it either way, sweeping the case under the carpet won't make it go away.

If we ever hope to get rid of racism we must be seen to take it seriously.

In principle I not only agree with you - but roughly eluded to the same in my OP.
Racism in any walk of life is unacceptable. I do feel that McCammon's accusations are without substance - surely any bigotry on the part of the club would have surfaced much earlier, given the number of black skinned players we've had over the years.I suspect that McCammons action in using the race card as an option is because he can owing to the colour of his skin ( strangely this option is not employed by other minorities). I believe that McCammon's claim will be dismissed and deemed to be frivolous. Unfortunately any frivolous use of the race card will seriously damage, if not destroy the integrity of genuine cases of racism.


McCammon would do well to consider any litigation open to Gillingham FC against him for slander. I would suggest he walks away whilst he's still got the money that GFC have wasted on him over 3 years.
 
I seem to remember one of the articles saying that McCammon's contract was terminated a week after he brought up the race discrimination claims. If this is correct then he may actually have a case for unfair dismissal...

With regards to the racial discrimination claims, we'll have to wait and see. But it certainly is a big issue and an hugely important one, and I don't think we should all automatically assume his claims are 'bogus' (Although I very much hope they are!). I don't think people should judge his claims on how crap he was on the pitch...

fair point Superbob, we should probably avoid judgement before all the facts have been presented, however how crap he was on the pitch is relevant, as it was for this reason, not the colour of his skin, that the club may wished to have move him on. I find it hard to believe that any case he may have for unfair dismissal is race related but as you say though maybe best to wait until all the facts are in the open.

But of course to prove or disprove his claim the process must be gone through. The hope is, if this case is found to be ungrounded, it will show people that all cases are treated equally and hopefully deter similar claims and prove to society that it is taken seriously by the FA, PFA et al.
 
BSG, if you wish to use me as an example, whilst at the sametime setting one, don't use my comments as your springboard or aim the fact, i'm encouraging a linch mob or revolt.

if you disagree...fine, but don't question how i see the subject compared to your tinted view....you full of it patronizing wa***er...take that how you see it !

basically your view's & comments are no better than what the FA's would be, thats beat around the bush rather than deal with the matter in question...words no actions !!!
 
If there were any racial prejudice at Gillingham Football Club the manager and chairman would not have called MMc the "big summer signing" and awarded him the most lucrative contract at the club.


Fans on this site are absolutely within their rights to slate MMc's actions, further wasting everyone's time and resources.

Not surprised in the slightest by the Gowling comments. They used to live together and were regularly out on nights out with each other, incidentally the other room-mate was Curtis Weston, so it will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

I think this is a massive case of sour grapes, if Scally or Hess were racist then there is no way that it could have been covered up for so long. You were dicriminated against because you were rubbish Mccammon, nothing else. I would imagine that the club continuously attempted to move you on but you were happy to sit and do nothing on your fat cat wages, disgraceful.
 
Come on guys don't get personal with each other, we all have are views and are all gills fans at the end of the day.
My view is; why didn't mccammon bring this issue up in June when he was released? Why leave it nearly a year? Myself and 99% don't look at people by their skin colour but how good they perform for gills. I loved barcham, I love kuffour I love Tomlin I love weston(sometimes ;) ) but IMO mark mccammon was very poor but I do question why he got put in the youths and not reserves?
I don't feel hessy or Scally to be racist one bit. But we all know the fa will take this serious and hope we can prove ourselfs innocent. If they were racist then they deserve to get punished as I'm totally against it and I guess most of you lot are.
 
personally i would deny his case; not because i have any idea about what treatment he rec'd or that he was a crap player, but because of the amount of time he has taken to make the case. why wait 18 months to go to court?! imo, he is just jumping on the bandwagon of the current climate in football
 
I don't really understand how McC could have been "sacked" in january '11, does that mean he was not paid for 5 months? Also why would he be suing Scally if it was MS that mistreated him and sent him to train with the youth team? Not to mention the pay cuts etc. that were enforced after relegation would have been based on an individuals existing contract? I personally believe that McC is clutching at straws and I am embarrassed that such a vile part of the sport is being linked with the club I love. Hopefully this is a misunderstanding, but I do not like how it is being touted as a monumental case for all the wrong reasons, especially at a critical point in time for our current squad of players and their promotion campaign.
 
Mike the article states that the claim was made back in April'11, the delay in it being released is due to the PFA trying to mediate between the two parties, so I don't think the case is a straight forward as MMcC just looking for another payday and it certainly isn't a case of making an claim based on what has happened recently with the likes of Terry and Suarez
 
I'ts all very sad but I think the racism issue has gone too far in this country. There is a fine line between something that is discrimination and something that is not.
For instance I get called fat git quite a lot. I don't mind cos I am a few pounds over. I sometimes call my son doughnut because of the things that he does due to his age and inexperience. I tell my wife to get back in the kitchen and she retorts that looks like a willy only smaller! It is in our nature to poke fun of anything considered different. Its called comedy !!! Now I agree its wrong if the abuse is relentless as I was bullied at school many years ago (Do you think I should sue the perpertraitors) but why are we all frightened of calling someone black when they are !! Its because if a person from this minority thinks someone else is getting a better deal than they are its not because they are simply not liked or not good enough or have attitude . No it must be because of their colour and they get away with it too.
If anyone is discriminated against in this country its white people you try getting a job at your local indian,chinese or Pizza takeaway . In fact you more or less have to be a minority now to get a job in the police !!! They even ask it on the application form.
I just wish common sense would prevail. There probably was some discrimination against Mac but it was probably because he was crap !!
 
I think this thread has now run its course with everyone having had their chance to debate over the last 48 hours. Especially considering the topic was removed from at least two other Gillingham sites. So in everyone's best interest I have now decided it is the right time to close it.
