Hughes would be a very good capture for you. Bruce has some experience of fighting relegation so wouldn't necessarily be a bad shout although I can see why you might be hesitant about him at the moment. Curbishley would also be a good option, although he's been out of the game for a few years.
I think Hughes would be the best of those three, Bruce has been devalued after his spree failed at Sunderland and Curbishley has done nothing of note since Charlton. Still not 'over the moon' at the thought of Hughes' appointment...
Talk about the Good, The Bad and The Ugly... Out of the three, it has to be Hughes... Err...think he's the Bad
Looking at the available managers, Mark Hughes seems to tick many of the boards boxes. He has extensive PL experience and has done a fair job at each club he has been at. He will know some of the players here, he will have time to target new player purchases to take us forward. Hughes also has a good knowledge of the Man City academy structure, which we desperately need to move up several notches to develop players (something TF has shown desire to develop). Interestingly Hughes has a very similar management win ratio to NW - with the difference Hughes is all in the PL! I don't see too many other managers - that we could seriously get - that will fit in with the club right now. I think he could prove to be a good appointment. The board have made their move now, and they will equally be judged at the end of the season.
That's my take on him too. Plus he managed wales during their most successful period (although he had some fine players to work with). The guys never managed outside of the EPL. He's not some lower league hack. Young, obviously ambitious. Ticks a lot more boxes than NW I would've thought. But most fans aren't too excited??
it looks like QPR are a club with great ambition, first of all PL survival is paramount, sparky got blackburn from the bottom half to the top 6 of the PL, and with fulham to 8th. his record with smaller PL teams is second to none, and i think it would be a good fit, he doesnt come cheap though
If it is to be Hughes, I hope they announce today and he's taking training tomorrow and buying/ loaning a defence as well. We have no time to waste. Don't care what continent agents/Fernandes are on it's easy enough to communicate nowadays. Even those of us who don't rate him (I am agnostic - doesn't excite me but I suspect he will keep us up) need to get behind him at the games - it wasn't his fault NW was sacked, and making the new boy feel unwanted won't help any of us.....
Hope the announcement comes today, I'd be happy with Mark Hughes and feel he will get respect from the players. At least we won't have to listen to Warnock make a plank of himself in post match interviews....It's Not fair! But our lads were amazing!! ...... It's going to be interesting how Hughes handles Adel
Whilst Iâm gutted to see Warnock go, and I disagreed with the decision to let him go, the sooner we move on the better. I certainly donât think that savaging the board is going to do anybody any good, and I really believe that the decision, right or wrong, was made with the best of intentions. Equally, I just donât get why people are being so dismissive of the idea of Mark Hughes coming to the club. You have to say that he did an outstanding job with Wales and at Blackburn, and a good solid job at Man City and Fulham. When he was Wales manager he got them to a playoff for a place at the 2004 Euros. They would kill to be in a position like that now. In his first season at Blackburn, he helped them avoid relegation and got them to the FA Cup semis. In his second season he got them a top 6 finish, qualification for the UEFA Cup, and a League Cup semi! I donât know about you guys, but if he were to mirror that achievement in his first two season at QPR I would certainly take that!
No. I checked that too. Barton had long gone by the time hughes arrived. Hughes signed samba when he was at Blackburn. If it means landing him again, I'd take Hughes for sure.
I doubt it will happen today, his agent is coming into the country on weds so expect is to be Thursday at the earliest.
As long as he plays the guys in their strongest positions and can make game changing substitutions. Encourage the players to pass and move, and to close down when not in possession.
Not sure that I'd agree with that, Hughe's sides aren't particularly known for playing beautiful free-flowing football. If anything they're known for playing a very physical in yer face brand of footie. I think that I'm right in saying that at Blackburn his side finished bottom of the disciplinary table in all four of Hughes' seasons in charge. Not that that would bother me if he was to keep us up!
