From what I've heard, they really don't. Cutbacks are announced for January, and can't see TF giving Redknapp, or whomever comes in, a lot of money to spend. TF is looking for someone to get the best out of the players they already gave, which is the logical thing to do, rather than go and buy some more. If QPR fans think Redknapp automatically means survival, they're mistaken. He took over a very good Tottenham side which Jol had taken to the brink of CL, I really don't see what all the hype is. He did a fair job at Portsmouth, a fortunate cup run and a few decent PL finishes, but bankrupted them in the process. He's no better than David O'Leary and what he did to Leeds for some short term happiness.
Our friends the Guardian have been at pains to point out that Hughes' mistake was to leave Fulham : Here is the full article : http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/nov/23/mark-hughes-lost-spark-qpr
Difficult to feel sorry for the guy. And I agree that MAF would have had a wry smile today. No doubt Kia Joorabchian (not a licensed agent) will line Sparky up for a top job somewhere. Anyway C O Y W
Well done, Agent Hughes. Just a shame your cover was blown before you could complete your mission and take QPR down. Still, it's been fun.
Are QPR mirroring what happened to Fulham. Sanchez saved us???? from Relegation!!!!!!! then Mo kept him on and we slumped back down again, sacked before Uncle Roy took over to take us onto European glory. Will Harry Houdini be able to do the same or will he do a Southampton with them ?
I think it may be a tad late for 'Arry to save us to be honest. I feel that being 8 points off of safety with only one fit, out and out striker does not help the cause. Add into the mix the strops that Cisse throws and it does not bode well. Hughes was guilty of playing some really negative football with us, but our players definitely did not help his cause. I cannot deny that I'm happier with 'Arry and think our final points total will be greater with him than Hughes. A nice point for us at the SOL last night shows that. Good luck against the team supported by London's Only EC Winners.
I know you're not a WUM so in response to that I will try not to wind you up either, but I don't consider last night's point a positive result at all. The clean sheet yes, but this was a Sunderland team who have only scored five at home all season and are seriously out of form (despite a highly fortuitous win last week). Right now, Sunderland away must be one of the away trips that doesn't seem too formidable and teams that are struggling have to target that as an away win.
Is it me or now the Ambitious one is gone, I wouldn't mind if Quite Probably Relegated manage to stay up?? - or am I getting soft in my old age!!!
No, I'm with you, Fred. Was willing them to lose every game when Mr Ambitious was there - now, if they survive then that would be okay.
I can totally understand your viewpoint about going to the SOL and disagreeing with me thinking 1 point is a positive. But with all things considered I stick by my point of 1 point being good for us; for any other team currently heading up there I would agree whole heartedly with you. We only accumulated 4 points prior to the game :s 'Arry had 48 Hours to try and sort out the errors being made and lift morale, the work rate of our players suggests he did this to some extent. We travelled to SOL on 4 points after 13 games, not the greatest of achievements.... so not losing was a must. Hopefully that's a small platform for us to push on to saturday with. As for you other guys, surely you laughed long and hard enough when we signed AJ???
It was difficult, you guys were expecting us to hail him as one of our best players and that it was one of the signings of the summer. I know it wasn't you, but the endless crowing in pre-season from QPR fans and the comments like "two teams going in different directions" (when comparing QPR to us) won't go forgotten, certainly if you go down. You seem the decent sort though, nice to see someone like yourself on here. Agreed on a point at the SOL being a positive, certainly after that home game against Soton.
I'm with Bidley and DR on QPR's possible relegation. Two or three years ago I didn't mind QPR at all. When they got promoted, some of the fans were on this board arrogantly telling us that we were doomed and they were the new force in South-West London, then they all went quiet after the 5-0 game. Then this season, the same again until it all went quiet after the opening weekend. To be honest, the Hughes business didn't change anything for me. He didn't leave us to go to QPR. He left us expecting a better offer which never came. Then he went to QPR because it was the best job he could get. I know some of our fans were arrogant and offensive as we were climbing through the divisions in the late 90s, and I think it's almost inevitable for any club who suddenly finds themselves with a wealthy sugar-daddy funding them at a level beyond most of their immediate rivals, but it's the QPR fans on forums like this that have turned me against them. HoopyD, you seem one of the exceptions to the above. Thanks for showing us that QPR have some reasonable fans who actually want to talk football rather than just wind people up. I'm sure that most are more like you, it's just that it's the WUMs who make a bigger impact.
I'm still laughing about AJ! His injury record with us was as bad as before. It's a shame because on his day he is a hell of a player, energetic and creative- he makes defenders uncomfortable. Unfortunately the majority of other days he has a brace or cast on and is getting worked on by the Physio. I like Quite Probably Relegated as a name! If they hadn't appointed Harry I'd like to have seen them fight out of this, but I really don't like Redknapp (especially after being held up for an hour on the M3 whilst he gave an interview to the speed camera). Plus, the more success he has the more TV work Jamie will get!
Yup, totally in agreement with all this, and especially the endorsement of HoopyD's contribution. At the risk of being labelled a WUM myself, here is a quite funny spoof blog about the lead up to Hughes being sacked (honestly it's not meant as any kind of wind up; look on it rather as the anti-dote to Bill Shankly's famous quote about life, death and football) : http://newsthump.com/2012/11/23/mark-hughes-sacked-in-advance-of-next-defeat/
Cheers guys, I look forward to your visit to LR, at least 'Arry will shake Jol's hand Good points made there, like you said I think it's inevitable that some people will get carried away when money comes into a club. I do see a complete difference in our owners and think that this may have had a more direct impact on expectations of fans. I see Al Fayed doing business on the quiet thus not creating so much expectation whilst our Tone' seems to use every form of media possible to publicise his plans and predictions. New stadium comes to mind...... don't get me wrong I'm happy about that but does it need publicising when the idea is simply that? This has clearly come back to bite, and only time will tell if we can dig ourselves out of this seemingly probable relegation. I remember being at secondary school as Fulham were rising up the leagues, must admit to having a real liking to your Adidas shirts, I think the sponsor was Demon or something similar. Was quite surprised that there was only one Fulham fan in the school, but saying that my school was in North London and a bedrock for gooners; not strange as it was just as Wenger was creating brand Arsenal. It's easy to support winners. Just in case you were wondering there were only four QPR fans at my school.
