Robert Huth could have KILLED Callum Wilson, says ex-referee Mark Halsey
The Leicester defender received a booking for a foul on Bournemouth striker Wilson, before kicking the ball at his head from point-blank range

  • Robert Huth - saying he could have KILLED Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson during an incident on Saturday.

    Ex-Stoke man Huth was booked for a foul on Wilson, and proceeded to kick the ball at the Cherries forward's head from point-blank range.

    Halsey, speaking to you-are-the-ref.com, thinks the FA should take action against the German, referencing the tragic case of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes.

    "The FA should re-visit that," he said. "Kicking a ball in that manner, at that pace at a fellow professional, who is on the floor , that's a disgrace.

So if an opposing defender or keeper is on the floor in the penalty area , attacking players should not shoot in case it hits the poor darling on the bonce ?
Which is what happened to Wes Morgan at Anfield last season with the Ref awarding Liverpool a penalty ffs !
Get real Halsey .

... Halsey does have a point ... if the ball kicked at pace should strike a player in a particular place it could indeed kill ... the FA should therefore consider the use of sponge footballs ... just in case ...

... Halsey actually has no point ... he is asking the FA to review an incident that the ref actually saw and booked Huth for ... end of. Halsey knows this and his mitherings are therefore pure publicity seeking ...

Personally I don't think Huth actually meant to hit Wilson with the ball ... he did mean to foul him and was then just looking to put the ball out in order to get back in position ... as it turned out it hit the player adding insult to injury but not conclusively deliberate ... further, even if he did mean to hit him with ball (which as stated I don't believe was there) I don't think there was any intent to cause injury ...

Huth deserved a booking - he clearly lost his cool for a moment or two - but I think there's sufficient doubt with both the ball-to-face and hand-to-face incidents to be classed conclusively as deliberate. As FF said, the ball-to-face incident could merely have been his efforts to clear the ball, it makes logical sense if he didn't hear the whistle. The hand-to-face incident - Huth holds out his arm to shield off Mingers (Hell knows we've all done that) who was running up behind him. His arm was therefore held out behind him, so he wouldn't have been sure where it was going, so certainly wasn't deliberately directed towards the face. All in all, I think it was the right outcome. The second foul on Vardy on the otherhand...
 
Mark Halsey=sensationalist prick, no longer in the spotlight as a tosser of a ref he has to resort to this type of thing to court publicity.
 
yes, it should have been a red (particularly including the hand to the face), but this is a bit extreme isnt it
 
We've all seen players sent off for less. Think he was a bit lucky to be honest. In regard to the second penalty appeal for us I thought there was a stronger case for them with Benalouane's challenge. Don't think he has come to grips with the pace of the premier league yet.

.. have to disagree on the penalties buddy ... Vardy gets to the ball first and nicks it ... Bournemouth lad clatters him - going for the ball yes but is late ... penalty. Wilson on the other hand plays a clever striker's trick - basically a step over of sorts but not over the ball - the step is to deliberately put your leg across a competing defender and then go down with the inevitable contact as if it has resulted from the defenders action rather than your own ... Wilson was not actually attempting to play the ball at that point ... the ref fortunately was well placed to spot it and, IMHO, correctly waived play on ...

Agree with the Pens Fosse, Wilson went looking for it and went down easy. You could see on MOTD the ice on Vardys leg where he was kicked. Huth should have gone though to add balance

Only just caught up with MOTD, and saw the highlights.

Quite the few talking points, eh!

I think Mahrez was VERY unlucky to have his goal disallowed. I don't even know what the rules are any more, but he was leaning offside (at best!). His feet were the right side of the feet of the defender. Can you lean offside!? Surely not!?

I agree, it seems that Huth lost his cool for a second. I personally think he deliberately kicked the ball at Wilson... Whether he heard the whistle or not is another matter...

Should have had another penalty at the end, with Vardy.
It perhaps would have been harsh on them, but he didn't get the ball, and quite clearly clattered Vardy, so how is it not a foul?

Would have been screaming if they had been given a penalty for that coming together with Benny, Wilson was definitely looking for it.

The Wilson one may have been given if the second Vardy one had. Referee was clearly only going to give clear-cut decisions, hence why the first challenge on Vardy was a penalty- you'll never see a more clear-cut decision there!
