He hasn't lost his touch... Scunthorpe United FC @SUFCOfficial A brace in the second half from Jonathon Margetts seals victory for the Iron with two terrific finishes.
Scunthorpe is a good fit for him if he can get game time, they have a knack for bringing through strikers and selling them on. They did very well with Sharp, Hooper, Paterson, Keogh and Madden. Hopefully Margetts will develop well there, he seems like a natural finisher.
Margetts scored twice for Scunny today. http://www.scunthorpetelegraph.co.u...orpe-United/story-26345506-detail/story.html?
I don't know what this lad has to do to get a deal, he can't stop scoring and still doesn't get signed... BBC Humberside Sport @HumbersideSport #Scunthorpe United boss Mark Robins rules out a move for soon-to-be released Hull City U21s striker Jonathon Margetts.
A lot of young players these days go abroad when they get released, I'm thinking he might do the same.
I've had a snoop round and asked a couple of mates from t'other side o'bridge, Cardiff, Huddersfield, Fulham and Brentford all sent scouts to watch him this season, they reckon he's worth at least £2m, but I suspect that's more what he's worth to Scunthorpe than what he's actually worth in terms of the transfer market. I really wanted us to go for Moses Simon at Trencin, he was about the only player of theirs who looked good. Unfortunately he signed for Genk, where he has 7 goals in 10 games (including a hat-trick against Lokeren) and now plays for the Nigeria national team (2 caps). So that boat has sailed.
With strikers hard to come by, it seems strange Scunny didn't take a punt on him. Though I guess we all thought Cullen was going to make the grade, but he found it hard to step up to the higher level.
Johnny Margetts is still not having a great time. Having signed a one year deal with Tranmere Rovers at the start of this season (and scoring 2 in 10 for them), he was shipped out on a one month loan to Stockport County in November (where he scored 4 in 7) and then to Altrincham on a one month loan in January (where he scored 2 in 6). That loan ended today. He still seems to be scoring a few, but only at a low level and even his fifth tier club don't seem all that interested in playing him.
He won't get a look in at Tranmere unfortunately. Firstly because Brabin seems determined to make it a team of scousers, Higdon and Mcnulty the latest additions. Secondly, they only really play one up front and have Higdon, Taylor-Fletcher and James Norwood all ahead of him. I doubt he will make the bench to be honest.
Striker's loan at Altrincham has expired Striker Jonny Margetts' one-month loan with Altrincham has expired and he is back at Prenton Park. The 22-year-old made six appearances for the fellow National League team and scored two goals during his short stay at the J. Davidson Stadium. He is expected to be involved against Cammell Laird 1907 in the Cheshire Senior Cup this evening. http://www.tranmererovers.co.uk/new...loan-at-alty-2969118.aspx#2HPE6ys4sSdjUYlm.99
He and Cole Stockton each scored 2 in a 5-0 win. He is behind Stockton in the pecking order too I think.
Margetts has now gone on loan to Southport until the end of the season, shame he hasn't been able to kick on.
He scored the winner again for Tranmere against Chester in the Cheshire cup last week but won't get a look in at Tranmere. Playing for a contract somewhere next season now.
