Not keen on Quinn. Senna could be good. I think 15k is as much as he could get from us a week though.
Marcos Senna is a defensive midfielder isn´t he? Bald Spanish dude who is actually Brazilian! He´s got almost 30 full Spanish caps, the guy is class.
Looks like it's make or break tomorrow ... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_7002171,00.html
would love him to sign but think he is using swansea's interest as a bargaining chip to get more money from Villarreal. Hope its not the case but as more time passes the more sceptical i am about his actual desire to move to swans. I hope i am wrong though lol
My understanding from reading all the press releases is that we've already got an agreement with him and his agent and that his old club have fallen short financially. My take is that tomorrow's meeting is at the request of his old club to see if there is any chance of them matching us and giving him sufficient compensation to avert his desire to play in the Prem. We represent his last chance of playing in that league. There's also the factor of his family mentioned but who knows how critical that is in his thinking versus desire for Prem football and how Senna might calculate trade offs.
Yankee, although I agree to a degree (Call me Eminem), Senna is currently on £62,000 per week. I can't see us offering more than £15,000 per week, therefore Villareal really havn't got to do much to beat us. If they want him to sign back on, then their hardly going to cut his wages to a quarter.
i think we will be offering him more than that...only between £20-25 k which is still well short of what Villarreal can afford hence why i see him using us as a bargaining chip. Say he wants a move to the prem, its obvious we have shown an interest and may or may not have offered him a contract already and he will chance his arm for incentives to detract him from wanting to go to the prem. Hopefully Villarreal will call his bluff then tell him to go if he wants to go
I dunno, it wasn't structural problem why dorus left it just (as rumour has it) that wolves have offered him more should they go down than we were will to as i can imagine the structure will revert to last season should we get relegated. And lets face it Dorus is replaceable....Senna is a different quality of player so i can imagine he will be offered top of the structure....lets just hope its enough, as the structure is obviously going to increase massively due to the promotion
Remember when Callaghan and Tommy Smith joined us from Liverpool? They were getting on a bit but had a wealth of experience to share with our young guns back then. Got us into the old 1st Division and a 6th place finish first year. Marcos Senna has played at the highest level. Give him a 2 year contract, the experience and knowledge of Spanish style play and tactics he could bring to the club would be invaluable. Him and Bodde in the Mid-field? Bring 'em on.
Remember what happened 2 years after Ian Callaghan left? Financial meltdown, the club folded briefly, and we've spent 30 years recovering. Long-term financial stability has to be the fundamental consideration this time around.
25,000 , with bonuses if we stay up might catch his interests to finish his career in the Premier , especially with a team he knows will play him lots . We must spend for a bit of quality here & there . Senna dropped into our mid field would be , at the least , exciting & a learning experience for most of the others .
At 20 or 25k per week we should still be interested I think... I know I said 15k but if that's what we offered Dorus, this guy should be worth more. Full Spanish international (and was a part of the 2008 Euros winning team) and a class act, he could be a huge help to us this coming season.
It is the end of the day out in Spain ... no news is good news? I would have thought that an agreement with Villarreal would have been summarily announced. We've saved money on Pratley and have some extra cash to burn ... this guy would be worth the punt for a season, perhaps two, to give us some definite depth and provide a platform for us to consolidate our brand of football in the Prem. Reading between the lines, his old club don't want to renew the contract at previous levels - so he's already facing a drop in wages. At 34 almost 35, they may not see him as being a regular in their starting line-up (I'm sure they have been planning for this and have his replacement on hand) - so who is to say exactly how much of a drop in wages they may want him to take to stay.
Guys im pretty excited about this transfer if we can seal it! i've recently bought him on fifa and his passing and all that is quality! i think his experience will be a massive drive for the swans if we can get him!
jacklife, If fifa is to be trusted then our starting 11 is due to win the league next year! Let's hope it comes true, that way in fifa12 wont have to sign him again
