Marcos Rojo has been criticised at club level, especially two seasons ago. Sporting fans complained that he underwhelmed, had a poor season and didn't impress. Last season they said he generally played well, though the team wasn't performing up to par. Argentine supporters had no idea why he was in the squad as he underwhelmed there continually - until the WC, where he won most of them over. He is getting better, the question is if he is at Prem quality yet, and if he's young enough to be able to improve to that point soon. I'd say that all of these are debateable, much like Moreno and Manquillo are for Liverpool. We will have to see.
Like all the so called "cert" arrivals, I will believe it when I see it. Anything that involves Woodward tends to go pear shaped
Seems he has apologised to Sporting and re joined their squad for training... http://www1.skysports.com/football/...ted-target-marcos-rojo-apologises-to-sporting What a gimp move, going on strike .
Hmmm, the SSN article says Sporting wont let him go unless the £30m release clause is met. So not so sure the Guardian source quoting £16m is to be trusted. Why would you put a £30m release clause in his contract then let him go for half that amount, especially when they obviously dont want to sell him. If they did, he wouldnt have had to go on strike.
craig bushmouse@craigbushmouse 6m Hearing that Sporting Lisbon are willing to sell Rojo to United but terms are yet to be discussed. Apparently it's either a £16 million cash deal or £18 million cash and Anderson. Pay more to get rid of Anderson
Saying that, I would pay a club to take Torres off our hands at this rate These reports of £16 and £18m are ridiculous. He has a £30m release clause, and Sporting have said they will not sell unless someone meets the release clause. This pissed off the player so much he went on strike like a cock. Now Sporting are just going to change their mind and let him go for half the release clause, just because......
Its 16million pkus nani or 18 plus ando isnt it? If his release clause is 30million the either would be great.
Rob Shepherd, Daily Mail sports writer, has tweeted the following LVG on brink of showdown with Woodward #mufc More news outlets beginning to pick this up suggesting the two will have a showdown meeting to discuss transfer issues...!
Stewart Gardner said on the Paddy Crerand show that Marcos Rojo could be announced as a a Manchester United player tonight.
Breaking news from Christian Martin - Argentinian UK based journalist who works for FOX News. Man Utd reach an agreement with Sporting Lisbon for Marcos Rojo. € 22m is the figure of the pass and the contract for 4 years. Posted about 30 seconds ago, great news if this has gone through as Sky were saying buying the remaining 15% was causing a hold up
@FabrizioRomano: Man United has agreement with Sporting Lisboa for Marcos #Rojo: €20M + Nani on loan, deal done. Rojo on next days in Uk for medicals #MUFC @FabrizioRomano: #Nani on this week will be in Lisboa to have medicals and sign his contract with Sporting. He'll be in Rojo-#MUFC deal, on loan
Marcos Rojo on Radio Continental: "It feels like a dream to be a player for Man United." Rojo "It will be a nice experience futbol English gustóDeberé I always adapt quickly to the style of play.." Rojo also mentioned the fact he's moving to another club Seba Verón played at. 'He told me about them when we played for Estudiantes.'
Strange signing this - Lisbon fans don't even think he's that good. Apparently he had a great world cup (I didn't notice, but he made the WC team of 11?) and now suddenly he's a 20mil defender. Just shows what a world cup can do for you I guess He's a CB that prefers to play LB - so I guess you'll have a bit of versatility with him.
