I won't forget what Henry did. Subtle but entirely deliberate handball. And he dived for a penalty when we beat Arsenal 2-4.
Maybe the Irish feel the same towards Henry as the English do towards Maradona. Maybe the Polish regard Scholes in the same way. Btw Scholes did it shortly after for Manure in Europe, but the ref spotted it and gave him a second yellow. Maybe the Welsh feel the same about Joe Jordan. Depends which side you're on. For instance, for all the debate about Gillingham's penalty it's hardly mentioned that Bogle actually went down before there was contact for Charlton's penalty. Only Bowyer has said that it wasn't a penalty.
Blimey, I didn't know Bogle had dived for the penalty as well as trying to take it. He just gets better and better
Bowyer said that he "won" the penalty, then corrected himself and said he "was involved" in getting the penalty. An honest man is LLB. Neither of the commentators picked up on it, although they made plenty of fuss about the Pikeys' one.
Laughable, pathetic comment. Lineker, a guy who played for his country and scored many goals is actually an England hater, because he posted an RIP about another footballer. Haters gotta hate.
England had a top class team & a top class manager in 1986. The game & the future of English football might have been very different if Maradona hadn’t cheated. His justification for it, and the linking of it to the Falklands and ‘getting even’, stank. In the 35 years that followed, he never apologised. Whats been interesting is the reaction to Maradona’s death - by and large it’s the unpatriotic Left / Remainers / trendy wanabees in this country who have sympathised. Basically they don’t care about the cheating because they sneer at the very concept of England, and its fans.
The well known unpatriotic England-hating lefty Kevin Keegan gave a very warm tribute to him on the today programme.
"Ooh, that Kevin Keegan, makes my blood boil. He wants to go and try living in bloody Russia for a few years he does. Bleeding leftie. I had that nice General Pinochet in the back of my cab the other day..."
Reports of huge crowds mourning Maradona in Argentina... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-55060614 Perfectly natural, I know how passionate they are about him. But I don't know how bad the pandemic is in that country. Huge crowds with no social distancing is really, really asking for terrible consequences these days.
I've got a soft spot for the Argentine people, having experienced their warmth and friendliness as part of Ally's Army. It could have been a nightmare holiday because of the horrendous performance of the team, but the Argentine people made it the holiday of a lifetime that I will always treasure.
I've been in favour of letting the crowds back into the stadiums for a good while- it's open air and with a bit of carefully control should be much less hazardous than a pub or restaurant, though getting them there and home afterwards would be a problem. But every now and then, you see the Maradona funeral, the Liverpool celebration , and it makes it harder to justify. And while grief is a terrible thing, the scene's yesterday were just daft.
Andre Villas-Boas (remember him?) has called on FIFA to have every club retire the number 10 shirt in a tribute to Maradona. Would it not be more fitting to have their groundsmen remove all the white lines instead?
