The silly sod actually put the story in his autobiography. He was involved in a bet for the time of the first throw in, but failed to put the ball in touch in the first minute so lost the bet. Nothing ever came of it.
Never got to see maradona play. Only ever seen clips but it's incredible to see how revered he is in Argentina and Naples. It's a shame there's not more footage of him. RIP
Same as Bob, never got to see him play but seen enough clips to know what a player he was. Did get to see him at Spurs once, he was a guest a few years back when we were playing games at Wembley, very rare a non-Spurs player or non-Spurs fan is brought out for half time interviews, he got a great reception too. As weird as it sounds you could just tell by the aura/ atmosphere when he was announced that he was one of the greatest to ever play the game.
Peter Shilton is a stupid bitter prick. He really does annoy me by the fact he can't get over it. As a young England fan, watching in the local hotel (I know exactly where I was when Diego scored the second, but not so much his first) I was over it in about the five minutes he took to score his utterly brilliant, work of a genius, second goal. The man was ****ing incredible. Shilton was none of those things. He should have just caught it, the stupid ****. Best ever according to Fosse, which pretty much tells you everything about the useless ****. As in, he's a million miles from that. Clemence was way better.
Was at WHL when Shilton came the week after his first arrest for drink driving where he was found pissed in his mashed up car with some woman . The whole match was one huge piss take of songs about playing away...was about 13 or 14...****ing loved it
Too young to see him live but how the **** was Shilton still getting a game in 86 let alone 90 when he could barely move? Surely we had better at the time. He stopped Chris Woods and Beasant getting a cap at a World Cup because he insisted on playing in the third place playoff. Poor from Bobby Robson too really.
Interesting article here if anyone is interested in reading it all, it chats about Shilton, past goalkeepers and the choices made and why by various England maangers... https://footballpink.net/peter-shilton-a-tarnished-legacy/
The very same World Cup when he was lobbed three yards off his line and it essentially cost us the game? That world cup? He was a ****e keeper and a prick of a man (is).
For us Charlton fans, Rob Lee is the greatest footballer ever. Selling him enabled us to get back to the valley.
Somewhere up there Best and Maradona are chilling round a table, Best lining up the whisky shots and Maradona stacking a mountain of coke, ready for a great sesh. Waiting for Pele to bring the Viagra.
This ^ I was never having him, and he’s shown himself to be a proper **** in virtually every aspect of life. Even now, his takes on life are that of a proper, full on, ****wit. I know the media have inevitably asked him about ‘that goal’ but if he had an ounce of class he’d have have said ‘now isn’t the time to be talking about that (yet again)’ but no, not him, he’s revelling in it. Thundercunt.
