I think they were preferable to the Beatles. They did very few cover versions, didn't all dress the same, came from different parts of the country so we din't have to hear all this rubbish about Mersey beat and never took themselves too seriously. You certainly couldn't imagine them having the pomposity to write or perform such egregious nonsense as "When I'm 64" "Octopuss' Garden" or "Yellow submarine".
I hope John Lennon wrote "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey," before he met Yoko. I'd hate to think that people might read the wrong meaning into the song.
It's also worthy of note that at no point did any of the Spice Girls claim to be bigger than Jesus so at least they were well grounded young ladies.
After my wife took me to the beatles museum in liverpool i have managed to gain a little respect to them for how and what they had achieved. However that still doesnt change my view that their songs, whether well written or not, were poorly sung and poorly performed! Same could be said of Bob Dylan mind, who i am a big fan of, but ho hum....there you go! I think i would have liked the beatles more if John Lennon & Paul McCartney wasnt in them! Particularly Paul.....who I can only describe as naff!!!!
