So is he good l, average or ****?

His recent form suggests average. Some on Twitter are saying he’s good.

Hes been our best defender since replacing yedlin. I can only presuse that the fans being critical simply have no idea. Hes 25 and adapted to the league after struggling a season or 2.

He's better than average based in current form. If he continues like this for the whole season then I'd say he is good.

Better as a defender than attacking wing back. He does put in some decent crosses mind you from deep.

Let's not get carried away. Diame had a couple of good games at 1 point

Diame was older and already adapted to english football. My feeling is manq is one that took along time to adapt and had a confidence issue which hes now overcome.. hes been very good for a about 15 games and no side has had any change out if him during that period.

Think it takes some Players a while to settle in especially coming from abroad, but for me he seems to have finally started to play some good stuff, his crossing is mostly spot on

Reminds me of James Perch, Andy O'Brien
Terrible start to their nufc career then slowly building up to what could be classed as cult status

    We wait and see
(If he scores against the makems then it will be hero status - but he has only 8 years of his career left in him and I cant see us playing them unless it's in the cup)

Look there is no point in sugar coating ****. The lad has been ****ing awful for 80% of his time here. Not bad, but ****ing tragically poor.

However his form at the back end was pretty decent.

Obviously he hasn't exactly been a roaring success elsewhere.

All common sense says I should have put him in the shyte box because that is what his career says. However I'm in a good fettle so I've gone average and taken his most recent form as now the norm.

Anyone else think Gary Speed also had an abysmal start to his Newcastle career before turning the corner. Don’t know if I’m in a minority but that definitely is my recollection.

For all the comparisons so far I'm amazed no-one has gone for the obvious Jose Enrique.

I reckon Manq is actually pretty handy. Our midfield needs to gel ( after not being the reinforcing is have liked), and I'd that happens we're good enough for the Prem.

How are they similar? Enrique looked like a player straight away he just made daft mistakes. Once he cut them out he was class. Manquillo looked poor and made daft mistakes. At best he could be solid. Enrique was a million times better than Manquillo will ever be

First season with us Enrique looked properly dodgy. It took relegation for him to find his feet and then he returned to the Premiership twice the player.

Enrique was better going forward than Manquillo but we're prone to over-estimate certain players and he's one of them. I really liked him for us but mid-table Premiership was his natural level and if Manquillo continues he'll be the same.

He's a good player. I think we have quite a few good players.

Enrique also had Jonas playing infront of him during his best spell for us, giving him quite a bit of protection, which allowed him to grow his confidence.
Manquillo, was chopped and changed between RB/LB (later RWB/LWB) and obviously had the link to the that little club up the road, which hampered him when he was brought in. He does appear to be playing more consistently now, but think Yedlin offers more going forward and don't know enough about Krafth to compare.
