Nope that will surely be correct. It depends on the contract but it seems crazy to think he would 'need' a medical if he's been playing for you already all season. Selling club shouldn't agree to that as it's open to abuse for the buying club.
No I think you're right mate, once the 25 games have triggered the purchase we'd have to pay up even if he gets carried off by an eagle never to be seen again. Knowing us no doubt we'd try to fight it (the obligation not the eagle) and make ourselves look like amateurs in the process.
I can see a scenario where he plays his 24th game then gets banished to the reserves for some 'unknown' reason.
He's been right about this sort of stuff in the past. Knows people who know people! He's rarely been wrong though
Emerson Thome? (Anyone else remember him) - 1 game short of us having to pay Chelsea an extra £1m and he never played again!
Didn't Newcastle do that with a player last season they had on loan? Anyway, Manquillo seems a decent RB, I'd say he's good enough right now, to start for a PL team. He had an ok season at Marseille, they had a poor season, every game they seemed to draw, bit like you lot a couple of years back. It's hard to tell how they'll adapt from L1 to EPL, many fail miserably as Newcastle know, and others triumph almost instantly, as you lot know.
Season before we didn't play Gutierrez much after returning from injury because apparently it triggered an extra year on his contract. You get that quite a bit though, recall Jason Roberts doing 606 hosting duties a few years back as he was 'off' for the rest of the season as the club had told him he wouldn't be playing for them again as it would trigger a new contract. Not sure we had any loan players last season, apart from Remy we've not really done loans that I can recall - no resale value I guess.
Probably - Big Mike's reason!! Bit of a false economy though as getting relegated costs more than staying up - so loaning a couple of players to help you stay in the league would probably have been a good thing!
Did we not do that with Cisse under Sbragia? I remember him being dropped for the last 7-8 games even though he was our top scorer and we were far from safe.
Ah forgot about him. Quite possibly was a clause but we barely played him as he looked ****e. The loans system clearly has it's benefits, Sunderland have used it a lot and probably would have been relegated without the aid of players they have got through it. We've avoided it mostly and could have done with some others around in recent years.
I've got a mate who's an accountant at Leeds. Deals with club finances and still doesn't have a fecking clue about signings until after the fact.
If he does play 25 games then he's probably going to be worth signing. It will mean he is even better than Love, Jones and Matthews (if we still have him, I'm lost as to who's still ours or not) Option to buy would have been great with some of our loans, we all know some of the successful ones like Rose, Welbeck, Alonso, Evans and others. If it's handled right this is a good thing.
