The defence was always ****e and continued to be so through till Terry Neill arrived.. had we had a defence to anywhere match our forwards we'd have pissed the Second Division straightaway..

Agreed. Terry Venables was not half bad either in his day. Jack Taylor the ref. stuffed us at the bridge when he failed to award a pen for hand ball afterc Waggy got us back to 2-2. On the way home i knew we had missed our chance and so history proved. Simpkins goal at Boothferry was one of the best ever seen imo. I rocket of a shot.

Agreed. Losing games 4-5 @ Ipswich for starters was one nasty result. We had an electric attack and a cullender defence pre-Terry Neill.

As for this thread and Mannone. I see that he was back on the bench. Could be that Vito has had his time in the sun now at the Emerates.

Yes manonne will cost a few bob now after every manager in the country has seen his skills on match of the day in an arsenal kit. I'd guess there'll be a fair bit of demand for him, but you never know, he enjoyed living at the sea side...

Personally I couldn't see it, he'll be battling Szezsney for the no 1 shirt for the rest of the season and if he hasn't had many chances he'll go to a top Italian team most likely. It is obviously a real shame we didn't pay the million quid asking price in the summer.

I agree with that, we should have snapped him up.

Yes I was at the Bridge that day and I think it was Kirkup who handled the ball on the line to stop the goal. Great night out in London afterwards, but as you say the replay was always going to be tough, as it turned out to be, Simpkins goal was a cracker though.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but a million quid for an unknown keeepr did seem expensive to be fair
