Yes it should. All of the MotD pundits would have gone for that ball and the last thing you'd expect is for the GK to be trying to head it that far from goal.
It's a high foot anywhere else on the pitch. 100% a foul, but as I think Chris Sutton tried (quite poorly) to say last night on MotD, it is not only deliberate fouls that receive a red card, if you mistime a challenge or accidently go over the ball or studs up high it is still a red card whether intended or not. Mane has caught Ederson in the face with his leg very high, it wasn't intentional but it is a red card in my book. That being said you wouldn't expect him not to go for the ball, it's just unfortunate.
Agreed Suffolk, but when the ball came over the last defender, there was no one in front of him other than Ederson and I'm sure he didn't consider that he would be trying to head the ball.
The goalkeeper got kicked in the head, and had to leave the field! Mane knew full well the keeper was going for the ball, his foot was head high! Red card every day! The pundits on MOTD make me sick, Shearer trying to defend Sterling diving into the crowd the week before was nothing short of disgraceful. The reaction was there for all to see, the crowd dived forward clambering over each other, some even falling and getting on the pitch! It was an extremely dangerous situation, people could have been seriously hurt or killed and for Shearer to make light of it was criminal!
He only had eyes for the ball, he wanted that ball, he thought he could get there ahead of the Keepers. I don't think it was at all malicious. But There is a rule which is a red for dangerous play. If that is not a red card for that rule, then what would someone have to do? Yes, it was a red. It was unfortunate, an accident, it ruined the game as a contest. It was however very dangerous play.
Sorry FML, but that is total crap, are you seriously saying that he didn't know there was a goalkeeper in the penalty area? There is no way on this earth that he couldn't have been aware of of a six foot plus man and not expect him to be trying to get the ball? That guy has six stitches in his face, two of them very close to his eye, he could have been maimed for life! its dangerous play which ever way you look at it and the referee got it right, 3 match ban minimum!
Yea. I said it was a definite red, if you read it. Also, it wasn't in the area, and the Keeper stooped to head it.
And yet in one of the other games on MotD, a similar incident resulted in a yellow for the attacking player. #inconsistentrefereeing
The difference is that one player suffered terrible injuries the other didn't! The referee got the Mane decision right, also the other one!
One was unlucky enough to make contact, the other was lucky enough not to. Difference between a red and a yellow it seems.
