And lots on here would agree with him and you but I was talking about LFC's possible reason for appeal that's all.
IMO we all knew it was dangerous. I am firmly in the camp that he deserved his red cos it was reckless and sill and ANY straight red is 3 games now more or less. We all know where it goes..... why bother appealing.. i thought that stupid. just man up and accept it
I don't watch other games so haven't seen similar head kicks that some have pointed out. With that in mind, our appeal may have brought to the FA's attention the sheer inconsistency in refereeing. Head injuries now require special attention during play from the medics, no bouncing back up and carrying on. Punishment for blows to the head surely needs regulating too.
This was the weirdest appeal I have ever seen, I have seen many teams try to get a card overturned some successful most not but, I have never seen a team accept a card but try to get the mandatory punishment reduced. What grounds could there possibly be if you have accepted the card?
3 match ban for MITO and his inexcusable language. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/jul/30/liverpool-unacceptable-words-discrimination
Another similar incident. In the Liverpool Arsenal game Salah only just just beats Bellerin to the ball. Bellerin had his foot up at head height and Salah gets his head to the ball just first. Now this was mili seconds away from being studs to the face.
An appeal was never going to be a success. Diving is something that can be revised under current/proposed rules, but at the moment this type of dangerous tackle won't be. Bringing up two other tackles is fine to show what people believe to be a lack of consistency. But Ultimatley it was out of control and deserved to be punished.
You can appeal if the standard punishment is excessive. Watford did it last season after Pereyra kicked out in a match and his three match ban was reduced to one. Tbh I think the ban should have been reduced - it wasn't violent conduct in the same way an elbow or petulant kick is. It was a red card and dangerous, but not really violent.
Not the same circumstances, as the 3 match ban imposed was decided by UEFA and wasn't simply a mandatory ban length as defined by the rules. What Liverpool have done with Mane is attempt to re- write the rules, as the offence that he was guilty of they've not disputed merely the length of the ban, which was a mandatory length and not someone's subjective opinion.
First bit - no they haven't there are precedents. Second bit - Which can and have been successfully appealed. Fabregas got straight red for blasting the ball into Brunt's face - Arsenal accepted the card but appealed the length of ban and got three game ban down to one. There are others ....
We all knew that ban was never getting reduced or overturned, no way It really was a unique incident, I can't remember anything too similar ... everyone I speak to about it is conflicted like it should've been red but it shouldn't
I didn't know that tbh, I thought in the case of a mandatory length ban you either appealed against the decision or not.
Can't see how appealing the length of a ban is any worse than appealing to get a red card overturned that was totally warranted tbh.
