Pfftt the Itailans would slit your throat for such slander. You are making your cassoulet all wrong, less stew, more casserole.

The Italians will slit your throat for having pasta and salad on the same plate.

And, while I don't like to quibble (oh, who am I kidding - - I live to quibble) a casserole is a type of pot used for making stew in

Not to get pedantic about cooking (and because I also love a quibble), a casserole is indeed a dish used to serve food in. However the food which is served in said dish is also known as a casserole. Casseroles and stews are distinctly different by their cooking methods. Typically a casserole is made in a oven. A stew is typically made on a stove or open fire, where heat is applied to the bottom of a pot or pan. A typical french cassoulet is begun on a stove but finished in a oven and considered more of a casserole than a stew.

However by casserole I was simply talking about the consistency you are looking for, not the cooking method as such. A stew would be much thicker than a cassoulet without getting into the sublte differences in sausage.

Anyhoo... On the subject of Carroll... I don't think he's worth more than £10 million, so anything more is a bit of a waste considering the frugality of the board on better deals (supposedly). He's good, but he's not a brilliant player, and doesn't add much to the squad upfront beyond physicality in truth. He's scored f-all at West Ham hasn't he? And f-all at Liverpool... He's not a special striker who'll ever get 20 a season. He'd probably be Pardew's first choice, but only because of how he has us playing, not because Carroll's inherently better than Cisse, he isn't.

£10 million and he's a very good squad player purchase for me.
