That's kind of what I was saying in a different post. Yes, in terms of experience and success, the likes of Mancini and Mourinho are a huge step up from Howe. But will they want to come here? Now? They would be putting their reputations on the line for a gamble that might not pay off. In 2 or 3 years, maybe, after another 4-6 transfer windows and more commercial revenue to play with - and IF we have clearly demonstrated in that time that we are growing and competing. But to expect the likes of Jose or Mancini to work with Longstaff, Burn, Murphy, Lascelles and all the ither fan favourites? Nah, not happening. Either Eddie is here for another year or three, or the next manager is another interim stepping stone, to get us to the next level, but that won't yet be the TOP level.
Football has moved on in the last 10 years and Mancini and Others like Mourinho have not. Howe maybe limited but he’s a modern manager. If he could just learn and not be stubborn he would be fantastic. I fear he’s the club level manager like Southgate. Safe and simple. And stubborn.
I don't think Mancini would go very well but although I'm basically Howe in, I would like to see Jose in the dug out I must admit. I just think he would form a connection with our fans and it would be a good fit. The football may well be more pragmatic and maybe it wouldn't work but I'd like to find out.
This conversation will only intensify as we experience more and more defeats. The club looks set to achieve mid table which it had the 4 seasons before the takeover !
The problem you have got is no one is patient enough to wait for the future. As soon as you draw a couple of games and get knocked out of the cup by man city the manager is not good enough because he's never won the champions league
