We have just seen Moyes sacked after 10 months in charge. How long would you give a new manager if Wenger was to leave

3 years. First year to rebuild, 2nd year to compete, 3rd year to win stuff.

If we're not at least competitive in the 2nd year, then the manager should leave early.

What do you consider competitive? Are we not competitive now (top 4 and cup final)? And if we are, why does the new manager need a year rebuilding?

Because this current regime and squad won't win us the league and CL, which should be the aim for a club like us. We're always someway off the league, and never make it past the quarter finals of the CL, sometimes you have to get worse to get better.

Winning the FA cup is hardly a mark of competitiveness now, Wigan won it last year and got relegated in the same season, and finishing 4th every year is below average for a team of our stature, and with our rumoured wage bill.

In the rebuilding year are people happy for us to do a utd and be a laughing stock?

People slate wenger for achieving consistent top 4, so I can understand why some people might worry our fans wouldn't have the patience with a new manager if there is a year which doesn't go well.

The same, 3 years, if they don't perform, they get booted out after the second season.

If there is a vision and actual long term plan, then yes. With United, i couldn't tell what Moyes was trying to achieve, his transfers were iffy, playing style inconsistent etc. If a new manager came in and presented a vision, then i'd take a bad year. Look at Liverpool, their rebuild from Dalglish being **** only took 2 years, because Rodgers had a vision and knew what he wanted to do.

You would seriously change managers every two seasons ?

It might be deemed competitive again this year if we win it ;)

Last year. Just like Birmingham devalued the league cup, i can't take a cup seriously if the team that wins it ends up getting relegated. I'm all for the underdog story, but it poses the question why could they win the cup, but not play well in the league?

Most teams do that now, because they're paranoid of failure. All i ask for is a general direction.

By your own reckoning even if Rodgers won the league this season you would only give him another two seasons to win a trophy before sacking him

What about 1973,1976,1980 all seasons when second division clubs won the FA Cup.Millwall got to the final as did Cardiff, then there's the numerous occasions when relegated clubs have got to the final.I can remember two third division clubs winning the League Cup.

No, because he'd be ahead of the schedule set. Like i said, year 1 is rebuilding, year 2 is competing, year 3 is winning. if the new guy came in and bypassed stage 2, i'd probably give him a contract extension. I would only sack the manager if we weren't competitive.

It feels like you're being deliberately obtuse.

FA Cup is a great trophy to win. But it's not an aim... more a sweetener on the side. For a club like us, the league and the CL are the two that should be challenged for. And we haven't been close to either for years. And no, this year does not count as being close.

    A) I wasn't alive for those seasons, because i'm not old
    B) I tend to judge things based on my lifetime.
