Welbeck is officially the first player in football history to dive. Unless your team has never had a player who dives I suggest you **** off banging on about it. You have no room to talk, none at all so quietly **** off complaining.
SKD will be pleased, he was concerned that Powell wasn't getting much game time. He's also expressed concerns that we are a one man team so he'll be pleased to have seen 4 different goalscorers today.
Manchester United at home to a small team unlikely to kick up too much of a fuss with a young referee. The whistle was blown before he'd hit the deck. The only surprise is that anyone is surprised.
The penalty was missed anyway so it was hardly a game changer, if anything it fired Wigan up even more after it was saved.
I'm not saying it was a game changer but much too often young referees keen to impress and work their way up the ladder are too quick to err on the side of big clubs at home. It's hard enough playing away to a superior side without having to be wary of going anywhere near the opposition in box in the knowledge there's an inexperienced referee who is more keen to get on the right side of most important managers and players than actually giving a correct decision.
To be fair to the ref, he gets one look at the incident in real time and from his angle I have to say it looked more like a penalty, from other angles (even more so in slow motion) you could tell it shouldn't of been given but the ref just doesn't get that luxury.
Sometimes I sympathise with referees as, as you say, they get one chance to get it right but the goalkeeper has pulled his hands away and Welbeck has gone over so theatrically that, had he taken a second to think about it he really should have called it correctly. He gave himself no time- saw Welbeck go over and took the default option to point to the spot.
