These teams have got to get the ball to these players. I'm no Liverpool fan but when I look at their rubbish team, I don't see many wingers or people likely to whip a cross in. Andy Carroll though
I like rojo too. Think he will be a good player for us. Bit of a nutter which we don't have in this squad.
He sure was fearless. It was one of his best and worst attributes. Anyway, this games result looks better and better as time rolls on. Fully expect Arsenal to turn it around mind.
Well, well, well.. Would you believe it? Mighty Arsenal lost and Champions elect dropped two points at home to what would be classed as lesser teams on paper. Yet the "mediocre" United would be slated as not title worthy. Well, well, well!! I hope this helps everyone put yesterday's game in perfect perspective. 3 points is ALL that matters!!!
good result.the performance was not exceptional but it will get better. I just hope we sort the GK situation. It seems it is only about money. United are right to hold tight. As LVG said we always have to pay the asking price and then some. Real should be no different.
GK is not the main weak point. The main weak point is there is too much gap between midfield and attack. There is no one to fall deep to receive the ball. Depay basically played as a second striker. This has been happening throughout pre season and Van Gaal should have seen it. You can notice sometimes Rooney falls deep to receive the ball and there's no one to strike as Depay was always in no man's land. I don't know what Van Gaal is thinking, but if this is his version of 4-3-3 then we are in for another nervous season. He needs to sort this out, if he is playing 4-2-3-1 then he should get Mata behind rooney and Memphis on the wing. If he is going 4-3-3 he should get Herrera as the 3rd man in midfield and get Memphis on the wing. What he played yesterday was basically 4-4-2.
The result was vital. After last seasons awful start it was pivotal we got 3 points on the board. Sure it was an own goal but Rooney would have scored it regardless. Later results just emphasised how important the result was, we are not the ones playing catch up from day one. From game 10 last year, we matched Chelsea for points. That means the early season horror show cost us. Avoid it this time and we are in a much better position. As you say, the performances will come. But the result will always matter most.
@lostboi agreed but it's also about the role of the central midfielders behind. One has to get forward when we have possession. I was watching yesterday as we got the ball to either Carrick or Schneiderlin the outlet was limited. Mata was sublime but the trouble was it was far too easy for Spurs defence to close down his options as they marked Young and Depay out of the game. When the ball goes out to either Young or Mata, that creates space for Schneiderlin imo to go forward. It also helps the AM in a free role.
Herrera has to play. Ahead of Mata unfortunately in a 433. Because he offers so much more to the midfield.
I also agree, one of Schneiderlin and carrick has to get forward. We all know Carrick is not the one to always find himself in the box. Schneiderlin use to get forward for Southampton, so probably LVG asked him not to. And don't u think we will be far too open when he does because Depay is not a natural midfielder and won't cover for him when he does. I think if we had a natural no 10 playing in the hole yesterday our performance would have been a lot better.
That is the logical thing to do. in 4-3-3 u need hardworking midfielders and Herrera would bring the burst going forward and the energy in tracking back to defend admist being creative. With 2 DM, Herrera will have the freedom he craves and fill the hole that was missing yesterday. And I don't think Young is best suited to 4-3-3, he is best as a wing back or in a 4-2-2. In 4-3-3 both wingers need to be much more creative with an eye for goals.
Depay isnt an AM. He doesnt understand how to use the space around him. He either thinks like a winger and ended up running into crowded central defensive areas (which you dont get out wide) or he played 3/4 yard one/twos but these were for the sake of it rather than any meaningful incisive passing. Tbh I'd just like to see Depay play in his natural position to see what he can do. Herrera in the middle is a no brainer.
Yea spot on. And if Van Gaal wishes to play 4-3-3 then he has to ditch young. No disrespecting, young was fantastic last season, but he is best suited to old fashioned 4-4-2, take on defender cross the ball, or cut inside cross the ball. He doesn't have the intelligence to play in a 4-3-3. If u watch the best teams in the world play 4-3-3 and their wingers play a vital role. Wingers don't cross the ball much these days, most of the crosses are done by full backs, that is why u need very good full backs and I think we got one in Darmian, that is why I don't bother too much if mata plays right wing. Also Shaw is looking like a very good player. Madrid has Ronaldo and Bale on the flanks, Ronaldo is 30+ goals a season while Bale is 15+, they don't cross the ball too often. Barcelona has Neymar and Messi, Bayern Munich has Ribery and Robben. I still think Depay can emulate them but definitely not Young. Young is good as a back up.
average performance overall, but good 3 points spurs deserved a draw we need - sorting Gea issue and buy a replacement - buy a solid CB - buy a back up striker based on current team, I don't see us winning the league, quality wise, I place ourselves 4th behind Chelsea, $hity and arsenal
