Wanyama was great, especially after the goal. He was like a forcefield at the top of the penalty area.
I bow to your superior knowledge. Hope you had a punt on it. Although we are clearly too good for them to dominate us for even 89 secs. Chaz Austin? What a buy, what a substitution! The perfect impact sub when combined with JWP, master of the dead-ball
Sorry, bit off topic and not positive, but just saw this reply ... In what context? Possibly ... Interviewer "So if you wanted to be the next Chelsea manager and Guus Hiddink put in a good word for you would that be a big influence?" Ron "Err, yes" Otherwise, knowing Ron as I think we do, how else could this have happened, I can't believe he would have this conversation as reported.
On some footage it shows Charlie talking to Clasie about his welfare after the final whistle, what it didn't show was the badly stud marked back of Clasie's leg, presumably it was the result of when Foullaini went hard into him in the first half
While Man Utd disappointed throughout (though the pass via the ref's heel to create us a chance was pure quality) LvG's face and frantic doodling was a joy at the end. The sarcastic comment re managing over on the Utd forum indeed strikes at the heart of the problem. 89mins, a goal down at home, so I'll have a good scribble, put a defender up front, change face colour, jobs a good 'un.
I haven't read the whole thread yet as I landed in Atlanta last night at 9:30pm UK...I was in the air from 12pm UK time. All I know is the moment I touched down, I turned on the phone and the passengers around me all looked round as I shouted "Get in there!". The Americans were bemused, but I heard a Brit say to his wife "I think he's checked the football scores". One Charlie Austin. One Ronald Koeman. What a start to a holiday!
I noticed the concern on Charlie's face but didn't know the reason. I said at the time of that 50:50 ball that the belligerent Belgian had left his foot in but the ref hadn't seen it, just like the elbow to Vic's head went unpunished. Surely it's about time there was some retrospective action about that thug?
I know footballers aren't always the brightest but surely even they could lead to adapt their behaviour.
Just caught up on Sunday Supplement...mostly about ManU, but I'm not fussed....that is the story. Anyway, they eventually got round to us. Talked about what a bargain Austin was and pointed out that if his one goal yesterday puts us one place up the table at the seasons end, we have 3 mill of his 4 mill back. Said he was a natural goal scorer and people are coming round to realise that that isn't an insult....for last few years strikers have had to be everything, but Charlie proves the value of an out and out striker who can make space and score. Also mentioned that Koeman told him to go on and score from a free kick....as opposed to van Gaal filling players heads with instructions. Agreed it was a poor game, but we were the better side.
http://www.espnfc.co.uk/blog/the-to...on-fan-learns-of-man-utd-victory-at-30,000-ft Pilot lets Saints' fan know score at 30,000 feet.
Reminds me of a story when England beat Germany 5-1. The pilot told the passengers that there were six goals in the game....paused, then added... and Germany scored 1 of them.....followed by delighted applause from passengers.
Reference the lack of penalty awards, for shirt tugging, how did Long not get a penalty, in the first half, when he was shoulder charged in the middle of his chest? Can't remember the United player, but he wasn't watching the ball, first or last, just watching Long, then launched into him as the ball arrived, from a deadball situation. The ref was ideally placed to see it, and as the summariser said "Anywhere else on the pitch and the ref awards a free kick". This inconsistency is what frustrates me so much. I wouldn't care if there were 6 penalties in a game, if the ref were to apply the rules consistently. It might even clean the game up, if players knew the ref's attitude to fouls inside and outside of the box were equal.
