We could keep the same formation and just flip Targett and Bertrand. On paper, that seemed the more logical choice for 5 at the back, not that it hasn't been working well this way. Could also put Yoshida in as third CB and move Bertrand out wide.
Doubly brilliant given the pressure Ron was under to make something work fast. Has to help Bertrand's chance of going to France too.
Just once early on when VVD was dilly dallying close to Fonte and Fonte just put his laces through it....Row Z & evil stare to VVD. That is what has been missing from Fonte this season.
Can I just say, while we're talking about Virgil, that Fraser must have had some sort of premonition that VVD was going to short-pass him. He was off his line like a greyhound to clear it! Not sure if Virgil got the evil stare from Jose for that but it wouldn't have gone amiss.
I can understand United fans' despair when you consider the teams they have had in the past. Had a lively period at the beginning of the second half, but then went back into their shells after the delay due to Clasie's injury. Just lifeless. We had something to say about this today, but they have been like this most of this season. Mentioned on Match Choice that van Gaal had altered his formation for us....remarked it was a compliment to Southampton and that wouldn't have happened in the past. Also mentioned that Schneiderlin had a cult following at OT, so not disliked by everyone.

I can understand Smalling wanting to swap shirts with a superior player, but it is usual to do it after the final whistle, not at set pieces before the game is over.

I think it is pretty obvious that whist his injury was genuine that they have been very careful with their prized asset through the season.
Do. You remember Smalling on Pelle last season at OT? At one point half of Pelle's torso was shown as Smalling was actually trying to lift it over his head. Penalty? No. Old Trafford. Still 3 points. Thanks.
