So it turns out the device was from one of our training exercises I still blame LVG EDIT: It was left by another company we'd hired for a security exercise. What are the chances they were City fans.
The only positive thing that comes from all of this is that the pre-match security was effective. Top marks to the steward who spotted the device during their sweep and started the process rolling.
Tuesday 8pm. Shouldn't impact the FA Cup as he can select a bunch of youth players and his own signings.
so you planted a fake bomb in your own ground, then forgot you put it there.doh All those poor fans, traveled hundreds of miles from down south. Not to mention the Bournemouth fans.lol
The club will be refunding ticket purchase price only and giving those same ticket holders free entry to the match at OT on Tuesday. They will not be refunding any travel costs - that is absolutely outrageous. Hopefully a few peeps will take legal action to recover their full out of pocket expenses to open the floodgates. A friend of mine spent over £500 on travel and hotel costs.
A training exercise by an outside company... On the upside at least you finally have a season highlight!
Not too many. We want to see the shame of the 'biggest club in the world' play Europa league for the third consecutive season or whatever it is. We also know Van gaal can't get top 4 playing full time
Real aren't in the Europa fella. Shame the Intertoto isn't still around as it would have given you something to look forward to in July. Or would that honour have gone to Stoke? I agree with your last sentence.
They've even scrapped the Fair Play entry into the EL so no chance of a reprieve that way either. Although that doesn't really apply to Chelsea - they are even worse at playing fair than they are at playing football!
What is it that some muppets can't get. Manchester United (the club) hired in the services of a security company (not the club) to conduct training exercises to train and increase awareness of GMP officers, club staff and stewards in terms of sweeping for and identifying suspicious items. The security company introduced a number of 'fake' devices in and around the stadium as part of that training. It was their responsibility to account for the return of each and every one of those 'devices' at the conclusion of the exercise. Their staff did not, their staff were negligent, as a result of which the club will be suing the security company for every penny of match day and incidental losses. Off the back of that same training, our match day staff found the 'overlooked' device and correctly identified the threat to public safety associated with it. The decision to evacuate the stadium was made by the match day commander of GMP, not the club. Given all of the circumstances and the not inconsiderable risk associated with evacuating 76,000 fans, how anyone with any sense can criticise the club is beyond me. But there are always going to be morons out there.
Surely the device should have been spotted in pre match sweep. What time was it found? At noon or later???too late there are already fans in ground
