When I'm talking about a spine I'm talking about leadership. Go back to Bobby for instance, we had Given, lacked at centre half when Woodgate went, had Speed and Shearer. That is a spine or at least some of it. When things are going against you in a game or period of time, they are players who will stand up and take control. You just find out more about character in adversity.

I like Krul (he has strong character) and Colo is leader. MYM has some leadership skills in that he appears to take responsibility but you couldn't rely on him yet and it would be unfair to as he barely speaks a word of English. Saylor is a follower. Cabaye isn't a leader. Tiote originally led by example but been a while since we've seen anything like that. Nothing up top. I don't class having two of the 4-6 required as a spine personally and think this showed last season.

Bit harsh mate, he did once take a corner for us that beat the first man, and he has scored several consolation goals.

He's worth about the same as Tiote.

Pardews fault that, he actually takes the corners too.

Kinnear was the best corner taker in history. At least that's what Joe told me.

Not really too fussed if Cabaye leaves, so long as we get top dollar for him. As JPF said, too inconsistent and prone to be rash, moody and vindictive.
If we are to sell, l would prefer he went abroad, rather than to another Prem club.
Overall l feel he has disappointed, he is not the only culprit, but towards the end of the season it was obvious that his love affair with The Toon had waned and he was making noises that suggested he wanted out.
A depressive personality when things are not going well ? Maybe, but if his heart is no longer in the team, then cash in and use that income to buy others that want to be there.

From an outsider point of view i'd rip off limbs for 15m for him. That's a good profit from a player who's suffered 2nd season syndrome. When you think about what you paid for him it's the equivalent of us getting 3 or 4 million for James McClean who terrorised defences in his first season. For 3 million i'd drive Mclean there myself.

Nonsense guys. You guys must have forgotten him playing for France. He was arguably their best player in the Euros...

How can that translate into not good enough for Man U?

He just had a down-year due to a lack of rest, and the load of 6 games every 2 weeks on the team, alongside having Shola as your striker and Willo as your centreback.

Got a good game in him, but if a buyer comes calling, he'll be away.

Well, I think Spain would beat Man U (they did when they wore Barca shirts) and that France would beat Arsenal.

Maybe Man U would beat France, but you can't deny that France operates on a pretty good level.

True that, and to think we're consistently buying French fringe players!

Sissoko, Debuchy, Mbiwa...
add to that Gouffran Amouthful Marveaux and co.

23/07/2013: Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has cooled speculation that Yohan Cabaye could end up at Old Trafford with the Newcastle midfielder reported to be a fall-back option for David Moyes. "I feel like all of our players there is a value to Yohan," the Magpies boss told the Evening Chronicle. "Obviously he is a player I want to keep. It’s a big season for him. He will be a starter for France at the World Cup. It’s important for him. He is focused very much on us. There’s no bid for him as we speak now. Until such time as there is, he is a Newcastle United player."
